Burlington man found guilty of lesser charge

Burlington, Ia-  A Burlington man has been found guilty on lesser charges after originally being charged with attempted murder.

On Friday, November 6th,  a Des Moines County jury found 19-year-old Stone Thomas Graham of Burlington, Iowa guilty of two counts of Assault with Intent to Inflict Serious Injury, Intimidation with a Firearm, Going Armed with Intent, Assault on a Peace Officer with a Firearm, and Carrying Weapons, following a four-day trial.

The charges stemmed from two separate shooting incidents that occurred on November 7, 2019, one of which involved officers from the Des Moines County Sheriff’s Office.

The defendant was originally charged with two counts of Attempted Murder, as well as Intimidation, Going Armed with Intent, Assault on a Peace Officer with a Firearm, and Carrying Weapons. The jury found the defendant not guilty on the charges of Attempted Murder but instead found the defendant guilty of the lesser included offenses of Assault with Intent to Inflict Serious Injury.

Sentencing in this matter will be set by the Court. Graham faces a maximum sentence of thirty-two years in prison. The case was prosecuted by Des Moines County Attorney Lisa Schaefer.
