Area Hospitals reaching capacity

emergency

Burlington, Ia-  Great River Medical Center is both at capacity for coronavirus hospitalizations and experiencing a staffing shortage.

Great River Health Systems chief medical officer Michael McCoy told the Burlington Beacon that there are capacity issues at the hospital, and about 80 staff members are unable to work because of sickness.  This reduces the total capacity below the actual number of hospital beds.

Multiple other area hospitals, including the University of Iowa, are also at capacity.

Those who are exhibiting only mild symptoms of COVID-19 are urged to stay at home rather than go to the hospital.
