Burlington, Ia-  The Burlington City Council on Monday approved the appointment of the new Chief of Police.

The Council, by a vote of 4 to 1 approved the appointment of one Marc Denney to the position at a special work session on Monday.

Denney was one of five candidates for the position, one of whom was BPD’s Interim Chief Major Jeff Klein.

Despite a large amount of support for the promotion of Klein to the position, the decision was made to offer the job to Denney, who accepted prior to the appointment being made official.

Denney will assume the position of police chief at a later date, presumably in the new year.
