Burlington, Ia-  Des Moines County Public Health Director Christa Poggemiller on Tuesday gave an update on COVID-19 vaccinations in the county.

At Tuesdays County Board of Supervisors meeting, Poggemiller stated that the county’s vaccination rate is high.

“We have given 7890vaccines in our county so, 7,480 of those were county residents,” Poggemiller said.  “People who’ve had first and second doses is 1,840 for our county.”

Pogemiller also explained that allocations of the vaccine for other distributors are also done through the county.

“It’s the same program, we get the vaccine allocated through public health and then we re-allocate it to approved providers,” Poggemiller said.  “And now that we’re headed towards the end of our waitlist we’ll be doing more of that, allocating to different pharmacies that have asked to be vaccine providers.”

Des Moines County Public health will be hosting another vaccination clinic on Thursday, and Poggemiller is hopeful that that event should help to clear up the vaccine waiting list.

“We’ve gone through…it’s a moving target so I’m not really sure exactly how many was on our waitlist, but we’re assuming it was pretty close to 5,000” Poggemiller said.

The vaccine clinic will be held Thursday at Burlington Memorial Auditorium.
