Springfield, Il-  A proposed bill in the Illinois Senate could make the process to become a police officer in Illinois a bit harder.

TV station KHQA reports that specifically, it would require police and correctional officers to earn a bachelor’s degree with majors or minors in social work.  This requirement would also apply to probationary officers who seek to become permanent officers.

In addition, agencies would be required to offer tuition reimbursement if individuals qualified for financial aid either in college or the police academy.
