Obituaries for Thursday April 29th

Dean Laverne Moore, 89, of rural LaHarpe, Illinois, passed away at 11:59 p.m. Tuesday, April 27, 2021 at his home.

Dean was born on August 23, 1931 in Pontoosuc, Illinois, the son of George and Grace (Brown) Moore. On June 20, 1954 he married Carolyn Driskell at the Blandinsville Christian Church. She preceded him in death on October 15, 2020.

Dean served in the U.S. Army from 1952 until being Honorably Discharged in 1954. Dean farmed all of his life and enjoyed operating his bulldozer. His family owned and operated the True Value Hardware Store in LaHarpe for many years. Dean was a member of the LaHarpe Masonic Lodge, Blandinsville First Christian Church and LaHarpe Lions Club. He served his community as a volunteer for the LaHarpe Ambulance Service and as a Northwestern School Board Member.

Dean enjoyed word search puzzles, watching and reading Westerns and was an avid John Wayne fan.

Survivors include three children, Mike (Bambi) Moore of Blandinsville, Larry “Chip” (Janet) Moore of Macomb and Jennifer (Lanny) Bowman of Blandinsville; nine grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters-in-law, Patsy Moore of Macomb and Penny Moore of Oquawka and several nieces and nephews.

Dean was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Carolyn; his parents and four siblings, Helen Boone, Alice Mapes, Everette Moore and Gene Moore.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 1, 2021 at the Blandinsville First Christian Church with Gordon Blankenship and Andy Dressler officiating. Burial with Military Rites will follow in the LaHarpe Cemetery.

Friends may call after 2:00 p.m. Friday, April 30th at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in LaHarpe where Masonic Rites will be recited at 5:00 p.m. followed by visitation with the family until 7:00 p.m. A memorial fund has been established for Blandinsville First Christian Church, Lamoine Christian Camp, CHOI Peds HEM/UNC (St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital local affiliate), MDH Hospice or Blandinsville Rescue Squad.

Cornelia Ann Sickels, age 86 of Stronghurst, Illinois, passed away at 6:29 p.m. Monday, April 26, 2021 at OSF Holy Family Medical Center in Monmouth, Illinois. She was born December 21, 1934 in rural Gladstone, Illinois, the daughter of Hiram Edward and Lydia Waterman Mosher. On April 14, 1956, she married James D. Sickels in Burlington, Iowa. He preceded her in death on March 1, 2007.
Cornelia was a 1953 graduate of Stronghurst High School. She proudly lived most of her adult life in the Hopper community, near Stronghurst. She was a homemaker most of her life, raising five children and caring for her home. She was also employed at Lamont Limited and Selbys in Burlington for a few years. She was a member of the Good Sam CB Club, and the Stronghurst Christian Church. She loved gardening, raising animals, and was an excellent cook. She enjoyed camping, sewing, crocheting, reading, and listening to music. She and her husband also enjoyed traveling and they wintered in Arizona for several years.
Survivors include one daughter; Suzanne (Phil) Dye of Stronghurst, three sons; James David Sickels Jr (Paula Robinson) of Glasgow, KY, Mark Douglas Sickels of Fort Madison, IA, Darrel Dean (Diane) Sickels of Bay City, MI, one daughter in law; Diane Sickels of Oquawka, IL, a special friend of the family; Naomi Kuenstler, 17 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren, and one brother; Kenneth Mosher of Gonzales, TX. She was preceded in death by her husband, one son; Brian Daniel “Danny” Sickels, one daughter in law; Mary Sickels, one sister; Edna Northrup, and three brothers; William, Gerald, and Clayton Mosher.

Alberta R. Knobbs, 90, of LaHarpe, Illinois, passed away at 5:34 a.m. Sunday, April 25, 2021 at the UnityPoint – Memorial Hospital, Carthage, Illinois.
Alberta was born on May 25, 1930 in LaHarpe, Illinois, the daughter of Harold and Alelia (Chubb) Shoemate. On June 13, 1948 she married William “Bill” Knobbs in LaHarpe. He preceded her in death on September 6, 2013.
Alberta was a 1948 graduate of LaHarpe High School and still enjoyed getting together with classmates once a week. She was a member of the former LaHarpe United Methodist Church and the LaHarpe Senior Citizens.
Alberta enjoyed working in her flower beds, listening to country music and time spent with friends and family.
Survivors include four daughters: Betty (Robert) Quigle of Smyrna, Tennessee, Susan Keith of Smyrna, Tennessee, Rhonda (Ben) Diewold of Burlington, Iowa and Julie Larson of Ft. Madison, Iowa; eight grandchildren: Andrea (Jamie) Lambert, Robbie (Lisa) Quigle, Katie Larson, Will Larson, Stacey Wilson, Shaye (Daryl) Manley, Shawna (Michael) Wilson and Debi Quigle and seven great-grandchildren.
Alberta was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years: Bill; one brother and sister-in-law: John and Delores Shoemate and one son-in-law: Roger Keith.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, April 29, 2021 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in LaHarpe with Rev. Lee Unger officiating. Burial will follow in the LaHarpe Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until time of services Thursday at Banks & Beals. Mask are recommended. A memorial fund has been established for the LaHarpe American Legion or LaHarpe Senior Citizens.

R. Dean Brockway, 58, of Wapello passed away on Saturday, April 24, 2021 at his home in rural Wapello. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. on Friday, April 30 2021, at the Snyder and Hollenbaugh Funeral and Cremation Services of Wapello. Burial will be in Wapello Cemetery. Friends may call after 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 29, 2021 at the funeral home where the family will be present from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. A memorial has been established for the family in Dean’s name. Ronald Dean Brockway was born on December 20, 1962 in Burlington, Iowa the son of Ronald and Margaret “Peggy” (Hartsock) Brockway. On January 18, 1986, Dean was united in marriage to Misty Rae Boulton at the Louisa Center Church. Dean graduated from Wapello High School in 1981 and farmed in the area all of his life. He loved being a farmer almost as much as his passion for hunting, fishing, trap shooting, sporting clays, snowmobiling, and riding motorcycles.

Dean will be deeply missed by his wife, Misty Rae; sons, Logan Dean Brockway and his wife, Ashley and Holden Ray Brockway and Abby Kerr; grandsons, Abel Dean and Arthur Logan Brockway; sister, Pamela Jackson and her husband, Ronald; mother, Peggy Brockway; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Ray and Roberta Boulton; brother-in-law, Randy Boulton and his wife, Cindi; sisters-in-laws, Rae Nita Black and her husband, Bill and Rae Laneia Boulton; several nieces and nephews; cousins; many good friends and his faithful dog, Cooper aka Poochie.
Dean was preceded in death by his father, Ronald; grandparents, Arthur and Mae Brockway and Clayton and Karen Hartsock and brother-in-law, Doug Boulton.

Phillip Larry Clem, 80, of West Burlington, died at 12:21 PM Thursday, April 22, 2021, at the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington.

Born January 7, 1941, in Milan, MO, he was the son of John Cantril and Betty Frances Hodge Clem.

He worked at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant.

He was a 1968 graduate of San Juan High School in Citrus Heights, CA. He attended the University of Iowa.

Phillip loved sports; he lived for the University of Iowa football team and sports programs. He was proud of his adopted niece Katie Boney, for playing softball at the University of Iowa. He also liked to read books about the Civil War and Revolutionary War. He was known to family and friends as the best gift buyer ever. He liked to collect things and search for collectibles on Ebay. He was a regular diner at the All Star Maid Rite. During the 30 years he was a patron there, many of the staff became like family to him, especially Michelle Cox and Johnna Latty. Most of all, he loved his kids and grandkids and the time he spent with them.

Survivors include his daughter, Mona Michelle Clem; son, Michael Patrick Clem; three grandchildren, Sammy Jo, Curry, and John (Abby) Clem; one great-grandchild and one on the way.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Beverly Reusch.

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory.

A private family service will be held at a later date.

Robert Schweizer, 57, of Burlington, died Thursday, April 22, 2021 at his home.
Born September 6, 1963 in Burlington, Iowa he was the son of Donald and Mary (Shreves) Schweizer.
Rob married Martha Grensell on February 2, 1990, they later divorced.
He loved all music, particularly live music and enjoyed attending concerts. He loved cook and entertain for his friends and family. He was indeed the “life of the party”. He was known for his big personality and was loving and kind. He enjoyed golf, camping and loved his time spent with is grandson Cooper.
Survivors include his two children; Hillary (Brent) Prazak of North Carolina, Dexton (Magen Matheny) Schweizer of Colorado; his cherished grandson Cooper Prazak and two brothers, John Schweizer of Fort Collins, Colorado and Royce Schweizer of Des Moines.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
The Celebration of Life for Robert will be 3:00 p.m. Friday, April 30th at Lunning Chapel. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until the time of services.
A memorial has been established for the family.
Cremation has been accorded and entrusted the care of Lunning Chapel.
