Gov. Reynolds: no reason to fear Covid any longer

Des Moines, Ia-  Governor Kim Reynolds says there’s no reason to fear COVID-19 any longer.

The governor said at a news conference Wednesday, May 12th, 2021, that with COVID cases reaching a 10 month low, and the number of patients hospitalized with COVID-19 down 90% from its high in November, and about half of the state’s population vaccinated that it’s time to start getting back to normal.

“There’s no reason for us to fear Covid-19 any longer,” Reynolds says. “We know how to manage it and individuals can be trusted to make decisions that will keep us on a path forward. I believe Iowans are ready to live our lives more fully again and I think we’ve earned it.”

The governor also said that the extra 300 dollars in federal unemployment benefits for unemployed Iowans will end on June 12th.

“Jobs are readily available and employers are eager to hire,” Reynolds says, “and it’s time to get back to work.”
