Kevin J. Logan, 65, of West Burlington, died at 6:35 p.m. Friday, June 11, 2021 at his residence.
Born July 27, 1955 in Macomb, IL, he was the son of Richard H. and Beatrice M. (Powell) Logan.
On November 30, 1974 in Burlington, he married Sheila Ann Poggemiller. They later divorced.
Kevin graduated from West Burlington High School in 1973 and worked for Iowa Southern Utilities and Alliant Energy for 39 years as a Cross Country Corrosion Technician.
He was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ. Kevin enjoyed fishing, rod building, hunting, quilting, and being in the outdoors.
Survivors include his children; Kirk (Meredith) Logan of North Liberty, Toby (Lindsey) Logan, Jesse (Kim) Logan, Jody (Danielle) Logan all of West Burlington, and Ashley Logan of Burlington; nineteen grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Marsha Peters of Fraser, CO, and Patricia Nelson of Burlington; nieces and nephews.
Kevin was preceded in death by his parents, one sister Billie, and two brothers, Henry and Matthew.
The memorial funeral service for Mr. Logan will be 7 p.m. Thursday, June 17th at Lunning Chapel. Pastor Jay Clover will officiate. Private family inurnment will be in Greenwood Cemetery at a later date.
The Family will receive friends from 5 p.m. until the time-of-service Thursday evening at Lunning Chapel.
In lieu of flowers and plants, memorials have been established for the Des Moines County Conservation for Big Hollow and Great River Hospice.

Elder O.C. Wimley Jr, the son of O.C. Wimley Sr. and Eva Mae (nee Jackson) Wimley, was born October 10, 1944 in Kansas City, KS. Elder Wimley answered the call of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, on June 10, 2021.
O.C. was educated in the Kansas City, KS school District, graduating from Sumner High School in 1962. He served his Country during the Vietnam War in the Army from July 1964, and honorably discharged in 1967. Upon his discharge from the Army, he began working for General Motors in Kansas City, KS, which he referred to as “Generous Motors”. Working at General Motors only deepened his love of cars. His cars sparkled from the inside to the outside, with the wheels shined and the wide white wall tires.
O.C. was baptized in the name of Jesus Christ and received the Holy Ghost at an early age under the Pastoral leadership of Lula I. Hornbeak. In 1981 he answered the call of the Lord to become a Pastor of a church in Dubuque, IA. In 1983, he relocated to Des Moines, IA under the Pastoral Leadership of the late Bishop Jeremiah Reed. He again answered the call of the Lord, and relocated to Burlington, IA to Pastor a newly established church with 3 members, located at 908 Maple St. Under his leadership the membership outgrew the storefront church, in 1993 the church moved to a larger edifice at 515 Harrison St. Burlington, IA. Many lives were changed and souls saved. He worked tirelessly developing the church, devoting his time, energy, money, prayer and fasting, visiting the sick, visiting those incarcerated and BBQ skills to build the church.
O.C. married Beatrice Meritt, August 16, 1969 in Kansas City, KS. From this union four children were born: Raymond, Elaine, Sharice and Lisa. Throughout the years he was a proud and involved father to his family, taking them on rode trips to teach them to drive, giving them negotiating skills to move upward in their careers, teaching them about the mechanical functions of a car, even the girls, and most of all instilling in them a STRONG foundation of faith in Jesus Christ.
O.C. was preceded in death by his Mother and Father, Brother Raymond Wimley, Sister Patricia Ann Petty, Son-in-law, Sean Edwards, Nephew Curtis W. Wimley.
He leaves many other family members, church family and friends to cherish their rich memories of him: including his wife Beatrice, children Raymond (Regina) Wimley, Elaine (Terrill) Walker; Sharice Edwards, Lisa (Derrick) Ryce, Sister: Geraldine (Donald) Moore. 13 Grandchildren: Derryan, Kanyia, Raymond Jr., Seaniece, Vonell, Elise, Dontrell, Xavier, Trenton, Derrick Jr., Donovan, Mya, Dallas; and 5 Great-grandchildren and a niece and host of nephews.
Visitation will be from noon until 7:00 PM with the family to receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Friday, June 18, 2021 at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home.

The funeral service for Mr. Wimley will be 10:00 AM Saturday, June 19, 2021, at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. Military honors will be rendered by the U.S. Army. A time of food and fellowship will be held in the community room at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home following the burial.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established.

James Richard Anderson, 72, of New London, died Thursday, June 10, 2021 at Park Place in Mt. Pleasant. He was born March 18, 1949 in Mt. Pleasant to Richard Eugene and Virginia Garmoe Anderson. He married Catherine Pobanz; they divorced. He then married Mary Beth Strause; she died January 25, 2015.
Jim was a 1967 graduate of New London High School; worked at JI Case and later owned Main Street Market in New London. He was a member of the New London Volunteer Fire Department, enjoyed yardwork, antique cars, feeding and watching the birds, his cat Charlie, and was known for his witty one-liners.
Survivors include his sons Michael (Shelley) Anderson of Mt. Pleasant and Tom (Molly) Anderson of Elkhorn, Nebraska; step-daughters Teri (Bob) Magdefrau of Mt. Pleasant and Traci (Sam) Rupp of Johnston, Iowa; eight grandchildren; one sister Connie (Greg) Schurbon of New London; two nieces; and his special friend Felicia Sharp of New London and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his wife Mary Beth and his parents.
A memorial service for Mr. Anderson will be held at 10:00 Tuesday at Elliott Chapel, New London with Pastor Nathan Cooper officiating. Visitation will begin at noon Monday with the family receiving friends from 4:00 until 7:00 pm. According to his wishes, his body will be cremated and inurnment will be held at a later date. Michelle “Shelley” Singleton, 68, of Wapello, IA, passed away on Wednesday, June 9, 2021 at her home. Visitation for Dave and Shelley Singleton will begin at noon on Friday, June 18, 2021 at Snyder & Hollenbaugh Funeral & Cremation Services of Wapello. The family will be present from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Private family burial will be at Mallory Cemetery at a later date. Michelle West was born on October 16, 1952 in Burlington, the daughter of Ray and Dorothy (McCuen) Davis. Shelley was a 1970 graduate of Wapello High School. On July 7, 1973, she was united in marriage to David Singleton in Wapello. Shelley worked as manager for Casey’s in Wapello for over 35 years. In 2007, Shelley had a dream to begin Just 2 Moms, which Shelley and Jonie (Skip) Simmons began in 2008, working countless hours serving the community and giving to others. Over the years at Casey’s, Shelley used her powers of persuasion to initiate several movements, such as School Supply and Hat and Coat Drives, a Fireman Appreciation Weekend and Walk The Block. J2M donated countless hours and funds to the Ronald McDonald House, Dance Marathon and sponsored many cabins at the Heart Connections Kids Cancer Camp. Shelley served behind the scenes of many events and organizations. Anywhere and anytime that Shelley could lend a hand she was there. She helped fill the Firefighter widow bags at Christmas, donated her time to VFW, local schools, cemetery association and anyone else in need. Shelley was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan and held season tickets to the Iowa Football games for over 30 years.
Shelley will be deeply missed by her children, Shad (Angela) Singleton of Mora, Minnesota, Sara (Mike) Maddux of Wapello and Seth (Teilsen) Singleton of Wapello; grandchildren, Schae, Wyatt, Tate, Landry, Owen and Teagan and many brothers and sisters.
Shelley was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, David on November 29, 2020 and brothers, Russell “Buddy” West and Richard “Dick” West.

Harold August Schulz, 79, of Burlington died June 9, 2021 at his home.
Born August 23, 1941, he was the son of Fred W. and Pauline (Keuhnle) Schulz. On November 10, 1962 he married Sandra Strauss in Dodgeville, Iowa.
Harold was a farmer who also worked for Iowa Plate Glass Co. for 36 years and Modern Welding for 14 years where he retired.
He loved farming, his A.C. tractors, checking on crops daily, watching dirt track racing, attending Old Threshers, and especially spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Harold was also a part of the Local Glazier Union 581.
Harold is survived by his wife of 58 years, Sandra Schulz; three children, Suzie (Bart) Schneiderman, Gary Schulz, and John (Amy) Schulz; three grandchildren, Josh (Brittany) Schneiderman, Jarrod (Bailey Griffith) Schneiderman, and Janelle Schneiderman; three great-grandchildren, Bryar, Jaxon, and Brynn; one brother-in-law, Neil Voita; and four nieces, Pam (Mike) Zeimet, Kim (Jim) Erickson, Jennifer Voita, and Heather Forret.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Jeanette Voita, and his brother, Lawrence Schulz.
A private family graveside service will be held Tuesday, June 15, 2021 at Prairie Grove Cemetery. Pastor Kathleen Wohlers will officiate. Friends may call from 1:00-5:00 p.m. Monday, June 14th and from 8:00-10:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 15th at Lunning Chapel.

Dr. Clifton Edward “Cliff” Meloan, age 89, of Manhattan, Kansas, died Thursday, June 10, 2021, at the Good Shepherd Hospice House in Manhattan, KS.

He was born on August 4, 1931, in the family home in Bettendorf, Iowa, the son of Barton Jeans and Erma Evelyn (Mohr) Meloan.

Dr. Meloan was raised in Burlington, Iowa where he attended school, spending his third and fourth grades in a one room country school. He graduated from Burlington High School in 1949.

Planning on a military career he went through ROTC training and was stationed at Ft. Riley and later Ft. Carson as a First Lieutenant.

In 1953, he received a B.S. degree in chemical technology from Iowa State University and Ph.D. in analytical chemistry from Purdue University in 1959. Dr. Meloan came to Kansas State University in 1959, where he became a professor of analytical chemistry. In addition to his career at Kansas State he was a Science Advisor for the Food and Drug Administration for 28 years and a consultant for several industries. His areas of research included extraction mechanisms, criminalistics, insect detection in chemicals, and making undergraduate chemistry laboratories real world.

Dr. Meloan earned an international reputation for his wide-ranging research and scholarship and has long been recognized for his dedication to teaching. Since joining the KSU chemistry department, where he was affectionately called “Doc” by his students, he had directed the research of 50 Ph.D. and 26 M.S. students. He was the sole author of nine books and co-author of twenty-five books. In 1970, he was selected as a Distinguished Research and Teaching Professor, sponsored by the Standard Oil Company, and was twice selected as Outstanding Educator in America. He also received the Food and Drug Administration’s Commissioners Special Citation. Dr. Meloan was honored in 1995 as being selected as Kansas State University’s first University Teaching Scholar. His selection was based on his efforts in pioneering new and creative approaches to undergraduate instruction. He retired from Kansas State in 1996.

On September 1, 1957, in Burlington, Iowa, he was united in marriage to the former Marilyn Ann Berges. She preceded him in death on December 21, 2012. He was also preceded in death by his parents, infant twin granddaughters and by his brother-in-law: Arden Messer.

Dr. Meloan was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church where he served as an usher for many years. In his younger years while at Kansas State he taught Judo as a brown belt instructor. He later received his pilot’s license and was a member of the KSU Flying Club. An avid genealogist he researched and recorded both the Meloan and Berges family lineage. He also loved history, especially military history, and was a member of the Sons of the American Revolution. He was a member of the Stagg Hill Golf Club for many years where he not only enjoyed playing golf but for nearly 40 years (especially in the courses lean early years and following the 1993 flood) volunteered countless hours in cleaning and clearing the course which included planting and maintaining numerous flower beds. Throughout his lifetime he was an avid blood donor and was honored by the American Red Cross in 2016 for having donated over 19 gallons of blood, he was one pint short of 20 gallons. Following his retirement, he volunteered as a tax preparer at the Riley County Seniors’ Service Center. Dr. Meloan and his wife traveled extensively throughout the United States, including Hawaii, and had traveled throughout Europe. In 1992, he was honored to accompany his longtime friend and world renown glass blower Mitsugi Ohno to Japan to present a blown glass replica of the Himeji Castle to Japanese Emperor Akihito and Empress Michito. This work of art now resides at the Imperial Palace in Tokyo.

He is survived by two sons: Michael Barton Meloan (Janice) of Lenexa, KS, Douglas Paul Meloan (Elaine) of Manhattan, KS, and a daughter: Victoria Ann Cromer (Gary, Jr.) of Olathe, KS. Also surviving are six grandchildren: Mindy Batenhorst, Jonathan Meloan (Stephanie), Julie Meloan (Maggie Wagoner), Dane Meloan (Ashtin), William Cromer, Rebecca Cromer; and five great grandchildren: Avery Meloan, Brody and Carly Batenhorst and Hayden and Jack Meloan. Other survivors include his sister Marilyn June Messer of Fairfield, IA and numerous extended family.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:30 P.M. Monday, June 14th, at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, June 15th, at the First United Methodist Church, 612 Poyntz Ave., Manhattan, with Pastor Melanie Nord officiating.

Graveside services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Thursday, June 17th, at the Aspen Grove Cemetery in Burlington, Iowa. Rev. Melisa Bracht-Wagner will officiate.

Mary E. Rust, 88, of West Burlington, passed away peacefully at 1:30 a.m. Monday, June 7, 2021 at Great River Klein Center.
Born November 5, 1932 in Burlington she was the daughter of Henry W. and Martha E. (Babcock) Voigt. On August 5, 1951 she married Virgil K. Rust in Burlington. He died on March 10, 2017.
Mary graduated from Burlington High School and worked at Schramm’s for several years in the office. Mary Rust was a member of West Burlington United Methodist Church.
After starting a family, she became a full-time homemaker. She enjoyed being outdoors, riding bikes, taking walks, and working in the garden. She loved to travel, family camping vacations and spending winters in Texas following her husband’s retirement.
Survivors include two daughters; Karen S. (David) Strawhacker and Peggy J. Rust both of West Burlington; two granddaughters, Kyla (Mick) Henderson of St. Louis, Missouri and Hayley Strawhacker of West Burlington; three great grandchildren, Wyatt, Olly and Remy; two brothers Ernest (Linda) Voigt and Robert (Deborah) Voigt; three nieces and one nephew.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Laura Freedman.
The memorial funeral service for Mrs. Rust will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 16th at Lunning Chapel. Inurnment will be held at Aspen Grove Cemetery.
A memorial has been established for West Burlington United Methodist Church.

Doris Jean Coffey, 83, of Carman, Illinois, passed away at 9:50 p.m. Wednesday, June 9, 2021 at the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington, Iowa.

Doris was born on March 17, 1938 in Peoria, Illinois, the daughter of Harvey and Ollie Mae (Harris) Hill. On January 18, 1958 she married Merle Coffey Sr. in Peoria. He preceded her in death on October 19, 2019.

Doris was a member of the Carman United Methodist Church. She enjoyed sewing, crafts, cooking, fishing and traveling, especially to Florida and Texas.

Survivors include three children: Merle (Susan) Coffey Jr. of Carman, Debra (Rick) Dowell of Ft. Madison and Cathy Coffey of Burlington; nine grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren and one brother: Gerald Dean Hill of Homosassa, Florida.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents; husband and five siblings.

A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 15, 2021 at the Carman United Methodist Church with Pastor Lisa Unger officiating.

Jack Naylor, 95, passed away on June 10, 2021. Jack was born on August 14, 1925 in Center Junction, Iowa to Raymond and Pearl Naylor. He grew up in Scotch Grove, Iowa and graduated from Monticello High School. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corp on June 9, 1944 and served in the South Pacific during WWII. He saw action in Okinawa until August 15, 1945 and was then sent to China and served as a “China Marine”. The Marine Corp was always a very important part of Jack’s life.
Upon return from the war Jack married his childhood sweetheart, Alice Clark. They were married for 68 years but had known each other for over 80 years when she passed December 29, 2015. Together they had 4 daughters.
Jack farmed the Clark Family Farm until 1957 when he moved his family to Burlington, Iowa where he sold insurance for Farm Bureau Insurance. He eventually bought several independent agencies and formed The Naylor Agency. During his time as an Independent Agent he received several recognitions for his sales.
He and Alice were very active in their church, First Presbyterian Church, where Jack served as Elder, Usher, and Sunday School superintendent. Jack and Alice were active members of the Church’s Mariners group and served as Youth Leaders and Camp Directors on behalf of the National Family Camp Commission. He served in different capacities in the Presbytery and Synod of the Presbyterian Church, USA. In past years Jack and Alice also had been very active with the Great River Ramblers Motor Home Association.
Jack is survived by his 4 daughters and their husbands, Jan (Peter) Allan of De Pere, Wisconsin; Pat (Bill) Larsen of De Pere, Wisconsin; Debbie (Andy) Opiekun of Burlington, and Alicia (Jerry) Goehring of San Francisco, California. He was a loving grandpa to 7 grandchildren, Amy Allan, Jackie (Brandon) Smith, Steven (Dagmara) Larsen, Heather (Peter) Opichka, Tim (Julie Tague) Opiekun, Joanna (Brock) Schneden, and Brian (Kirstie) Opiekun. He also had 8 great grandchildren, Zachary and Callie Smith, Kalina and Stefan Larsen, Lizzie and Sammy Opichka, and Ella and Emry Schneden who they lovingly called “Apple Jack”.
He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, and 2 brothers and 4 sisters.
Services are pending with Lunning Chapel.
