Burlington, IA- At about 6:40 AM Wednesday, June 16th, 2021, The Burlington Fire Department responded to a reported house fire at 1609 South Street in Burlington.
Fire crews arrived on scene at 6:44 AM and located the small fire in the basement of the home. Firefighters had the fire extinguished by 6:58 AM.
Damages to the two-story home is estimated at $1,000 to the structure and about $5,000 to contents. The occupants of the home had discovered the fire while investigating a loud noise and were able to exit the house unharmed.
The fire is considered accidental and was likely caused by vapors from flammable liquids coming in contact with a pilot light from the water heater.
