Gerald B. “Jerry J” Johnson, 55, of Blandinsville, Illinois passed away at 12 Noon Saturday, June 19, 2021 at his home.
He was born October 20, 1965 in Macomb, the son of Mike and Ruth Ann (Daniels) Johnson. On August 23, 1985 he married Debbie Snelson at Argyle Lake State Park, near Colchester, Illinois.
Jerry worked in radio from the time he was 14 until 2005 at which time he started his own company, Gas & Go Radio. He was a dedicated member of the Blandinsville Community Organization.
Jerry had his pilot’s license and loved to fly. He also enjoyed traveling, fishing on the river and spending time with family and friends.
Surviving are his wife, Debbie, his father and step-mother, Mike and Ada Johnson of Keokuk, Iowa, his mother, Ruth Ann Floyd of Blandinsville, one daughter, Amanda (Joe) Smith of Blandinsville, one son, Cody Johnson of Bushnell, Illinois, three grandchildren, Aubrey Smith, Blake Smith and Josh Selmon, two brothers, Scott (Kari) Floyd of Carthage, Illinois and Josh Johnson of Kansas City, Missouri, three sisters, Angi (Kevin) Moormann of Aldridge, Missouri, Christy (Kevin) Lingenfelter of Nevada, Iowa and Julie (Ben) Ballard of Mediapolis, Iowa and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents and step-father, Jerry Floyd.
Services will be held at 10:00a.m. Monday, June 28, 2021 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in LaHarpe with Gary Smith and Tim Maxwell officiating. Burial will follow in the LaHarpe City Cemetery. The family will meet with friends Sunday June 27th from 3:00 until 5:00p.m. at Banks & Beals. Memorials may be made to the MDH Hospice. Melanie Lynn Waterman, 54, of Danville and Quincy, died Friday, June 18, 2021 at her sister’s home in New London. She was born March 10, 1967 in Burlington to Samuel Herbert and Wanda Marie Getchell Waterman. She was a 1985 graduate of Danville High School and attended Mt. Olive Baptist Church in LaBelle, Missouri.
Melanie worked many years as a CNA and in home health care in the Ft. Madison area and for twenty years as a CNA in Quincy up until the last few years when her health failed. She enjoyed listening to music, loved children and taking care of people, and would give the shirt off her back to help someone else. Melanie was a fun-loving Tomboy who enjoyed life to it’s fullest.
Survivors include her sister Christina (Jim) Consbrock of New London; two brothers, Tony (Niki) Waterman of West Point and Mike Waterman of Danville; one niece, Elissa Waterman of Burlington; one great niece; and one great nephew. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her grandparents and several aunts and uncles.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 am, Thursday, June 24, 2021 at Elliott Chapel, New London with Pastor Jeff Abbey officiating. Friends may call beginning at 10:00 am, until the time of the service. Burial will follow at Jaggar Cemetery, rural Danville. Gayle McCandless, 64, of Burlington, died at 2:07 PM Tuesday, June 15, 2021, at the Great River Medical Center in West Burlington. She died as a result of COVID-19, even after having been fully vaccinated.

Born October 14, 1956, in Langley, British Columbia, Canada, she was the daughter of Peter and Vivian Bartel Dyck. On March 18, 2000, she married John McCandless in Cedar Rapids, IA.

She worked as a Quality Control Lab Tech for Shearer’s.

Gayle was always happy and joking around. She was a friend to everyone she met. She had many talents, especially crocheting, and was a cat lover.

Survivors include her husband, John of Burlington, IA; two step-sons, John (Myla) McCandless of Greenville, SC, and Mic Bowers of Des Moines, IA; step-grandchildren, John, Darian and Kaile McCandless all of Cedar Rapids, James McCandless of Greenville, SC, Brittany Bowers of Sperry, Addyson and Rylan Bowers of Des Moines; two great-grandchildren; three sisters, Judy (Stew) Patterson of Dawson Creek, B.C., Carol (Ray) Cody of Abbotsford, B.C., and twin-sister, Sandy (Rick) Heppner of Abbotsford, B.C.; two nieces, Tara (Scott) McKean and Tiffany Heppner both of Abbotsford, B.C.; and one nephew, Nick Heppner of Chiliwack, B.C..

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Visitation will be from noon until 7:00 PM with the family to receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Wednesday, June 23, 2021 at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home.

The funeral service for Mrs. McCandless will be 2:00 PM Thursday, June 24, 2021, at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home. Cremation will be entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory following the service.

Juanita “Jo” Lloyd, formerly of West Burlington, passed away peacefully in her sleep on June 14, 2021 in Concord, CA. Born in Keota, OK on July 23, 1925 to John Robert and Clara Belle (Davis) Turney, she was the fourth of ten children. She graduated high school in 1943 in Stigler, OK, then moved to Oklahoma City where she contributed to the war effort by holding a “Rosie the Riveter” position at Douglas Aircraft. After the war, she attended the Oklahoma College for Women in Chickasha, OK, then worked for Southwestern Bell in Oklahoma City.

In 1946, she moved to Burlington, IA, and married Harry E. Perdue on June 9, 1946. Their union lasted 15 years, and they had one son, Howard. She worked at the Iowa Army Ammunitions Plant for nearly 40 years, from 1951 until 1990, when she retired. On May 31, 1968, she married Marvin M. Lloyd. In 2013, she and Marvin moved to California, where he passed away five years later, shortly after their 50th wedding anniversary. They were truly soul mates.

She was fun-loving, loved to laugh and tell funny stories, and enjoyed family get-togethers. She enjoyed nice clothes and her jewelry collection, loved crocheting and sewing, going to antique stores and auctions, organizing all her photos into photo albums, celebrating Christmas, her favorite holiday, with family, and mall-walking after she retired. Family was very important to her, and whenever she took a vacation, it was to visit family in Oklahoma and California. She was devoted to taking care of, and helping, her loved ones and extended family when she could.

She was preceded in death by her parents, five sisters, Lavona Walker of Berwyn, IL (formerly of West Burlington), Jewell Dean Williamson and Joyce Ann Morgan of Tulsa, OK, Roma Lee Murphy of Nepturne, NJ (formerly of West Burlington); and Donna Jo Allen of Jinx, OK, and two brothers, Norman Turney, who died in infancy, and Billy Turney of Midwest City, OK. Survivors include her son, Howard, from Pacheco, CA, two brothers, Robert F. Turney from Lakewood, WA and Johnathan Turney from Stigler, OK, and many nieces and nephews.

The funeral service for Mrs. Lloyd will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 22nd at Lunning Chapel. Rev. Dean Graber will officiate. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in her name with the Alzheimer’s Foundation.
