
Burlington, IA- Authorities have announced the arrest of a Fort Madison man following a police chase.
On Monday, June 21st, 2021, at about 7:55 PM a Des Moines County Deputy attempted to stop a motorcycle for a traffic violation at Roosevelt and West Avenue. The driver of the motorcycle failed to stop and sped away from the deputy.
The deputy pursued the motorcycle through West Burlington then north onto Beaverdale Road. The chase continued eastbound on Pleasant Grove Rd., south on Highway 61, and east on Sperry Rd.
Eventually, the motorcycle lost control at the intersection of Sperry Rd. and Pegtown Rd. and the driver attempted to flee on foot, but was captured.
The driver, 39-year-old Wayne Andrew Hayes of Fort Madison was arrested for Eluding, Driving While Barred, Interference with Official Acts, Fraudulent Use of Registration, and Carrying Weapons.
Hayes was transported to the Des Moines County Jail with a $15,000 bond.
