Burlington, IA-  After having to be canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic last year, Pride in the Park returned to Burlington on Saturday.

Dozens of vendors, and a large crowd of supporters came out to Crapo Park to show their support for the local LGBTQ+ community.

One of the event organizers Cody Flietner expressed what it meant for the community to be able to hold the event after having to cancel last year.

“We didn’t realize when we started this three years ago how important it was to the Burlington community because most people in the LGBTQIA+ had to go out of town for Pride,” Flietner said.  “So having one here in Burlington to celebrating Burlingtonians and the surrounding area was huge.”

Flietner also expressed what this event means to the community as a whole.

“It definitely touched the smaller communities that may not have support groups or any type of community members to talk to in regards to identity, sexuality, what they’re going through in life,” Flietner said.  “But, this gives them a chance to meet new friends, come see some of their allies they may not have known about that are here in town, and outside of town too.”
