Burlington man arrested following traffic stop

Burlington, IA-  Authorities have announced the arrest of a Burlington man following a traffic stop.

At approximately 8:10 PM Friday, a deputy with the Des Moines County Sheriff’s Office stopped a vehicle near the intersection of S 16th St. & Barret St. for a minor traffic violation.

During the stop, the driver was identified as 28-year-old William Cochenour of Fort Madison.  One of the passengers gave a false name of Brian Hand and was later identified as 54-year-old David Hand, of Burlington, IA.

An open-air K-9 sniff was conducted on the vehicle in which the K-9 alerted to the odor of narcotics. A subsequent search of the vehicle was conducted in which deputies located methamphetamine, heroin, and several items of drug paraphernalia.

William Cochenour was issued a summons for driving while barred and possession of a controlled substance.

David Hand was wanted for voluntary absence from custody and was placed under arrest for the warrant and for providing false identification to law enforcement.

Hand was transported to the Des Moines County Jail with no bond.
