Two arrested on drug charges following traffic stop

Carthage, Ill-  The Hancock County Sheriff’s Office has announced two arrests stemming from the same traffic stop.

According to a news release, on Friday, July 16th, 2021, a Hancock County Deputy conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle on Illinois Highway 9/96 at the edge of West Dallas City.

The Passenger in the vehicle, 44-year-old Billy J Dewein of Dallas City had a warrant for his arrest issued by the US Marshal’s Service for a probation violation related to a methamphetamine charge.

Dewein admitted to deputies he was in possession of Drug Paraphernalia at the time.  After a search he was discovered to be in possession of Methamphetamine.  The driver, 27-year-old Tosha Newman of Dallas City was also found to be in possession of Methamphetamine.

Both individuals were transported to the Hancock County Jail.
