Patricia Ann Mettler, 70, of New London, formerly of Oquawka, died Wednesday, July 21, 2021 at her home. She was born January 6, 1951 in Galesburg, Illinois to Doss and Phoebe Ann McCabe Hinshaw. She attended Union High School, Biggsville, Illinois.
On January 26, 1971 she married Jackie LeRoy Mettler in Oquawka, Illinois. She worked at New London Casey’s and Jet Stop, IAAP in Middletown and as a nurses aide. Pat enjoyed gambling, spending time with her grandchildren, shopping, watching the Lifetime Channel, craft shows, making candles and, along with Jack, she owned and operated J&P Diecast in New London.
Besides her husband, Jack, she is survived by her children, Jacqueline (Casey) Mettler Drew and Shane (Mindy) Mettler both of New London and Angie (Gary) Bell of San Tan Valley, Arizona; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; her brother David (Elaine) Hinshaw and sister, Sherry (Jim) Louck both of Oquawka, Illinois. She was preceded in death by her granddaughter Valerie; her parents; her sister Susie Joy and her special dog, Kisses.
According to her wishes, her body has been cremated. Friends may call after noon on Saturday, July 24, 2021 at Elliott Chapel, New London where the family will be present from 4:00 – 6:00 pm. A Celebration of Life will follow at the New London Community Center, 103 W. Washington Street, New London. A memorial has been established. Vera Mae Weyer, 97, of Sperry, died Monday, July 19, 2021.
Vera Mae was born on July 13, 1924 on the Pilling Family Farm.
Vera Mae was a homemaker with her husband and three children. She took part in their activities at church, school and Scouts. After their marriage at the Little Brown Church on December 6, 1941 they lived in 11 different states, from Utah to Delaware before returning to Iowa. They traveled in 44 different states.
Upon retirement in 1977 they returned to Iowa. Vera and John enjoyed volunteering at Midwest Old Threshers all year long and especially enjoyed the Reunion.
Vera was known for her beautiful hats and her favorite color purple. She was an accomplished seamstress, sewing everything from suits to quilts.
Vera is survived by daughter Judy Weyer, son John C. (Marian) Weyer and daughter in law Carolyn Weyer, all of Sperry. Grandchildren John W. (Teresa), John J. (Sara), George (Beth), Charles (Dawn) and Elizabeth (Jonathan) Weyer Davis. Great-grandchildren Nathan, Gabriel, John T., Amaya, Elijah, Luna, Selena, Theodore and Henry. Nieces and nephews.
Vera was proceeded in death by her husband John W. (Johnny), parents C.E. and Lottie Pilling, brother Ray, and son Stephen.

A graveside service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Saturday, July 24th at Kossuth Cemetery. Deacon Tracey Burgus will officiate.

Ervin Louis Baker, 88, of Burlington, died Friday, July 16, 2021 in West Burlington.
Born September 1, 1932, he was the son of Karl Elmer and Sylvia Myrtle (Hodson) Baker.
He married Dorothy Mae Todd in the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa on July 15, 1951. She died June 10, 2019.
Ervin was a graduate of Yarmouth High School and a lifelong farmer.
He is survived by his three children; Lynn (Dan) Egan of Burlington, David (Kathy) Baker of Morning Sun and Kelly Baker and Deb Heitmeier of Mt. Pleasant; ten grandchildren, Jared (Sarah) Godbey, Travis (Joanna) Godbey, Katie Godbey, Jacob (Annalicia) Wischmeier, Audra (Bryan) Spears, Brandon (Jenny) Egan, Emily Baker (Devon Hodgeman), Kyle (Kim) Baker, Ashlee (Grant) Whipple and Clay (Olivia) Baker; twenty great grandchildren; one sister Marjorie McDowell of Mt. Pleasant and one brother, Lawrence “Dee” Baker of California.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Dorothy, one daughter Jennifer Godbey, one sister Meriel Watkins, one brother Richard Baker and one son-in-law Chuck Godbey.
The funeral service for Mr. Baker will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, July 24th at Lunning Chapel. The Rev. Clay Baker will officiate. Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Morning Sun. Friends may call from noon until 7:00 p.m. Friday, July 23rd at Lunning Chapel.
Memorials have been established for the Elmwood Cemetery Association or Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice.

Theresa Ann Mack, 63, of Burlington, died Thursday, July 15, 2021.
Born April 20, 1958 in Fort Madison, lowa. She was the daughter of John André and Rita Ann
(Lockwood) Howell.
She was very proud of her years working as a paraeducator for Burlington High School, where
she loved impacting the lives of her students. She was a devoted volunteer, as was affirmed in
2013 when she was nominated for the Mayors’ Volunteer Awards. She worked tirelessly for the
Boy Scouts, Community Action of Southeast Iowa, Burlington Steamboat Days, and
concessions at athletic events for West Burlington Schools.
Theresa cherished time spent with her family, and especially enjoyed card and bingo nights with
her sisters. She loved her backyard pool and the summer days spent swimming in it. Her family
was always welcome to join her, but family never missed her annual luau. More than anything,
she loved every moment spent with her two loving children.
She is survived by her two children; Lindsey Mack (Ryan Schneider) of Davenport and Jonathan
Mack of Burlington; siblings, Mary Ann Willbanks, John “Jack” Howell, Cheryl (Jerry) Powell,
Barbara (Ron) Bechtel, James “Jim” (Tammy) Howell, Kathryn (Michael) McCannon, Michael
Howell, and Julia (Dan) Wischmeier; brothers-in-law Robert Sutty and Richard Schoof, and
several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Patricia Sutty and Rita JoAnn Schoof,
and her beloved cats Felix and Toby.
The funeral service for Theresa will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 21st at Lunning Chapel.
The Very Rev. Father Marty Goetz will officiate. Interment will be held in St. Mary’s Cemetery,
West Burlington. The rosary will be recited at 5:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 20th at Lunning Chapel
and the family will receive friends following the rosary until 7:00 p.m.
