West Burlington, IA-  The West Burlington School District will be installing solar panels on its school buildings in an effort to reduce energy costs.

The Hawk Eye reports that the project will allow Norwalk-based

company Red Lion Renewables to place solar paneling on parts of the roofs of the West Burlington elementary and high school buildings, as well as a solar canopy on the south side of the elementary school.

The West Burlington School board approved the project during its meeting on July 19th, and construction is set to begin in October. Red Lion will own and operate the solar panels, and the district will pay monthly fees for the generated electricity.  The district will not pay any of the construction costs.
