Patricia “Patty” Moore,76, of West Burlington died Friday, July 23, 2021 at Danville Care Center.
Born July 9, 1945 in Ottumwa, Iowa, she was the daughter of Clarence & Esther (Edler) Keen. She married Vaughn L. Moore June 12, 1965 in Ottumwa, IA.
Patty graduated in 1963 from Ottumwa High School. She worked 18 ½ years at Walgreens as a front register cashier.
She was a member of Riverside Baptist Church. She enjoyed collecting Indian dolls and was the first person in Burlington to make anatomically correct soft sculptured dolls that were hand stitched. She was a licensed cake decorator and also know as “The Skunk Lady”.
Survivors include her husband, Vaughn Moore of West Burlington; children, Lester Moore & Vona (John) Vernoy of Burlington; granddaughters, Ariel Moore & Jade Moore of Burlington; two foster children out of twelve, Laura (Brian) Holt of Havre, MT, Melinda “Mindi” (Rick) Belville of Burlington; and many foster grandchildren and many great foster grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and two brothers, Charles and Lester Keen.
Per her wishes, cremation has been entrusted to Lunning Chapel.

Nancy Sue Fariss, 83, of Burlington, died at 10:20 p.m. Friday, July 23, 2021 at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospital in West Burlington.
Born August 1, 1937 in West Burlington, she was the daughter of William A. & Grace L. (Warth) Fehse.
Nancy was a 1955 graduate of Burlington High School and attended Carl Sandburg College in Galesburg. She worked at Admiral in Galesburg, IL for 10+ years, and Motorola in Mt. Pleasant in production for 10 years, retiring in 2001.
She was of the protestant faith.
She enjoyed gardening, her animals, collecting movies (she has over 2000), cut figurines, and souvenirs.
Survivors include her children, Cupil G. (Mark) Schroeder of North Carolina, Michelle Touchette of Burlington, Kim Touchette of Oklahoma, Tonja Carlson of Burlington, Tami Arbogast of Mt. Pleasant, Gina (Mark) Hunter of Hillsboro, and Clarise S. (Harold) Fenner of Burlington; fourteen grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren, three great-great- grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother Ronnie Fehse, one granddaughter Sarah, son Randy Touchette, and son-in-law Jeff Arbogast.
According to her wishes, cremation has been entrusted to Lunning Chapel.
The family will be having a private ceremony.

Bruce Robert “Bob” Francis, 93, of Burlington, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, 25 July 2021 at University Hospitals in Iowa City, Iowa.
Bob was born on 12 Nov 1927 the son of Ruby Bryan Francis and Estella “Stella” Gladys (Richardson) Francis in Bloomfield, Iowa. On 12 Jul 1950 he married Miriam Elizabeth Elmore, daughter of Walter Glen “Hap” Elmore and Mary Lucille (Hudson) Elmore. The couple recently celebrated 71 happy years together.
Bob graduated from Bloomfield High School in 1946 and enlisted in the United States Marine Corp on 31 May 1946 serving at Subic Bay Naval Station in the Philippine Islands and at Guam, Marianas Islands until his honorable discharge on 30 May 1949. Beginning in the fall of 1949 he attended Iowa Wesleyan College in pursuit of an Iowa teaching certificate. He began his teaching career in Newberg, Iowa then in Salem, Iowa teaching science, coaching baseball and basketball and serving as the Salem school principal for the 1959-1960 school year. In the fall of 1960, he moved his family to Burlington, Iowa and took a position as science teacher at Oak Street Junior High School where he stayed until his retirement from teaching in 1982. During this time, he earned his Masters Degree from Union College in Schenectady, NY. His students were one of the great loves of his life.
Bob enjoyed traveling, golfing with his friends, fly fishing, building bird houses and feeders, and spending time with his grandchildren and a few other hobbies that kept him occupied.
Bob is survived by his wife (Miriam), three sons, Dannie (Joyce) Francis of Wever, Iowa, Marc of Burlington, Iowa, and Kevin of Burlington, Iowa; eight grandchildren, Chad (Nicole) Francis of Canon City, Colorado, Daniele (Adam) Lakin of Monument, Colorado, Tom (Tricia) Patterson of Burlington, Iowa, Ben (Megan) Patterson of LeClaire, Iowa, Caleb (Whitney) Titus of Burlington, Iowa, Ryan Francis of Mason City, IA, many great-grandchildren and one sister, Martha Jean Dooley, Freeport, Illinois.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter, Kathleen Titus, one grandson, Trent Robert Francis, and two sisters, Nancy Jane Rayburn and Mary Ellen Williams.
Cremation was accorded by Lunning Funeral Chapel and visitation for Bob will be held from 3:00 until 6:00 p.m. at Lunning Chapel on Thursday, 29 Jul 2021 where family will receive friends. Church and graveside services will not be held at this time.

Mrs. Frances Eileen Bartholomew, 76 of Burlington died at 1:02 p.m. Sunday, July 25, 2021 at Aspire Nursing and Rehabilitation in Washington, IA.
Born August 21, 1944 in San Mateo, CA, she was the daughter of Wilbur Clarence and Edna Mae (Gerst) Knotts. She married Gene Stafford, they later divorced. She married Charles Riegel Bartholomew on July 24, 1982 at Zion Lutheran Church. He died March 21, 2010.
Frances graduated from Sperry High School. She worked over 30 years in production at Winegard Company.
She was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary post 10102 and the District 1 President for the state of Iowa. She enjoyed shooting darts at the VFW, bowling, camping, and spending time and playing with her grandkids. She loved listening to music by Elvis, Alan Jackson, and Kenny Chesney.
Survivors include two children, Jodi (Jimmy Day) Dennison of Wapello, IA and Bruce (Suzie) Bartholomew of Lebanon, IL; five grandchildren, Kayla Ray Stafford and Dakota Day, both of Burlington, Tucker Bartholomew of Lebanon, IL, Darrian Le Dennison of Mt. Pleasant and Shani Day of Michigan; four great-grandchildren; and three siblings, Linda Lee Haley of Burlington, Wilbur Clarence Knotts Jr. of Quincy, IL, and Walter Ernest Knotts of Burlington.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a granddaughter, and a grandson.
The memorial visitation for Mrs. Bartholomew will be 1:00-3:00 p.m. Monday, August 2nd at Lunning Chapel followed by inurnment at Burlington Memorial Park Cemetery.
Cremation has been entrusted to Lunning Chapel.

Steven Wayne Bowman, 71, of New London, died Saturday, July 24, 2021.
Born May 18, 1950 in Burlington, Iowa he was the son of Clinton and Marcella (Hartman) Bowman. He married Barbara Bauman on May 18, 1991.
Steve worked for the Burlington Basket Factory for many years, in addition he worked as a dishwasher at many Burlington area restaurants, Naifeh’s grocery store, and mowed lawns.
He was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church.
He loved bowling and bowled for many years in Burlington, Mt. Pleasant and Fort Madison and made many friends. Steve loved playing and watching baseball, from Burlington Bees to the Chicago Cubs games. He enjoyed attending the races at 34 Raceway, going out to eat and dancing with Barb and working in his yard. Steve was always happy and positive and never knew a stranger.
He is survived by his loving wife Barbara Bowman of New London, his father Clinton Bowman of Burlington; one niece, two great-nieces and numerous cousins.
He was preceded in death by his mother and one brother Leonard Bowman.
The funeral service for Mr. Bowman will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 29th at Concordia Lutheran Church. The Rev. Christopher Roepke will officiate. Interment will be in Trinity Cemetery, rural Mt. Union. Visitation will be from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 28th at Concordia Lutheran Church where the family will receive friends. A service of the word will be held at 7:00 p.m.

Joshua Alan Stevenson, 36, of Burlington, died Friday, July 23, 2021, in Burlington.

Born January 10, 1985, in Burlington, he was the son of Alan Stevenson and Kelly Marie Brown Bowman.

Josh was a hard worker and was always up to any job or task.

Josh was a member of the Southside Hillbillies. He enjoyed riding his 4-wheeler and bike, fishing, and gardening. He loved watching T.V., especially westerns, and spending time with his nieces and nephews. He was known as being friendly to everyone he met and always being kind to animals.

Survivors include his mother, Kelly (Mark) Bowman of Burlington; father, Alan (Jennifer) Stevenson of Burlington; five brothers, Alan “Mikey” (Krystal) Stevenson, Jessie Stevenson, Jamie (Brooke) Stevenson, Bradley (Tesla French) Stevenson, and Justin Stevenson all of Burlington; nephew/brother, Drayton Stevenson Bowman of Burlington; two step-brothers, Terry (Alicia) Garmoe and Markie (Jo) Bowman, Jr. both of Burlington; paternal grandmother, Dolores Stevenson of Burlington; many aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his son, Blue, maternal grandparents, paternal grandfather, sister, Kelli Nicole Stevenson, nephew, Ashton Rollins, and uncle, Matt Brown Sr.

Mr. William “Willie” Edgar Jones, 77, of Burlington, died at 11:15 a.m. Saturday, July 24, 2021 at Danville Care Center.
Born September 15, 1943 in Burlington, he was the son of Emery Kenneth and Emma E. (Miner) Jones. He married Cheryl Anne Tomey November 13, 1971 at West Hill United Methodist Church.
Willie graduated from Burlington High School in 1961 and attended Burlington Junior College. He joined the United States Air Force, serving from January 18, 1962 until January 18, 1968 with time in Grand Forks, ND and Ankara, Turkey. He worked at Montgomery Wards and retired from Skeriks Auto Parts and Service.
Willie was a member of the Prairie Hunters Gun Club, Yarmouth Gun Club, Amateur Trapshooting Association, and the Iowa Trapshooting Association. He had been an avid trap shooter since 1965. He enjoyed Duck and Goose hunting and gun auctions. Willie was a NASCAR, St. Louis Cardinals, and Chicago Cubs fan.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Cheryl Anne of Burlington; two sisters, Peggy J. (Earl) Davies of Reno, NV and Mary (Phil) Chiaramonte of Waukee, IA; sister-in-law, Lisa M. Haynes of Plato, MO; two brothers-in-law, Steve R. Tomey of Kingman, AZ and Mitchell R. Tomey of Coal Valley, IL; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Kenneth Jones and one sister Margaret Applegarth.
The memorial service for Willie will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, August 14th at Lunning Chapel. Rev. Melisa Bracht-Wagner will officiate. The Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard will conduct full military Rites. Visitation will be 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. Inurnment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery at a later date.

Mildred Lois (Apt) Melvin, age 98, of Burlington, Iowa, passed away Saturday, July 24, 2021 at Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington, IA.

Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 29, 2021 in the First Christian Church in Burlington. A funeral service will follow. Burial will be in the Terre Haute Cemetery, Terre Haute, Illinois. Memorials may be made to the First Christian Church and Child Fund International. Banks & Beals Funeral Home of Stronghurst is assisting the family.

Mildred was born at home in rural Stronghurst, the daughter of Clarence and Mae Ingram Apt. She attended country schools and Terre Haute High School. On October 12, 1938, she married Lester Melvin in Burlington, IA. They moved to a farm near Raritan, IL, where they lived until 1982, when they moved to Burlington. Lester preceded her in death on February 6, 2001.

Mildred was employed by the Burlington Medical Center and Great River Medical Center for over thirty years, retiring in 2008. She was an active member of the First Christian Church in Burlington. She loved road trips, antiquing, and spending time with her family.

Survivors include her son; Ronald (Jean) Melvin, two grandchildren; Lori (Gary) Whitehall and Jon (Heidi) Melvin, four great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lester, one brother; Frank Melvin, one sister; Mary Shallenberger, and one grandson; Michael Melvin.

Lillian Bray, 96, of LaHarpe, Illinois passed away on the morning of July 24, 2021 at Oak Lane Nursing & Rehab in Stronghurst.
Lillian was born on February 17, 1925, near Raritan, Illinois. She was the daughter of George and Mary (Gunter) Brokaw. She married Donald Bray on March 5, 1946. He preceded her in death on December 10, 2000.
Lillian graduated from Media High School. She then attended the College of Commerce in Burlington, Iowa, and was employed by Farmers and Merchants Bank until her marriage. She worked part-time for the LaHarpe Telephone Company for 25 years, retiring in 1995. Lillian was a member of the LaHarpe Christian Church, where she taught in the primary department and served on many committees. She was also a member of the LaHarpe Senior Citizen, and enjoyed delivering meals. She was a volunteer at the LaMoine Nursing Home. She enjoyed reading and for many years went to the school to listen to the children read. She served on the election board for several years.
She is survived by four sons, Phillip Bray and Melvin (Suzie) Bray all of Burlington, Darrell (Sharon) Bray and Wayne (Susan) Bray all of LaHarpe, three daughters, Nadine Allen of Donnellson, Iowa, Cheryl (Mike) Hopwood of East Peoria, Illinois and Marlene (Brad) Eskridge of Industry, Illinois, 14 grandchildren and three step-grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandsons.
Lillian was preceded in death by her husband, one grandson, Nathan Bray, son-in-law, Keith Allen, one sister, Lois Campbell (Oscar Dowell, Norman Campbell) and three brothers, Jack (Pat) Brokaw, James (Marie) Brokaw and John (Marjorie) Brokaw.
The funeral service for Lillian will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, July 29, 2021 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in LaHarpe with Pastor Nate McCarter officiating. Burial will follow in the LaHarpe Cemetery.
Friends may call after 3:00 until 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at Bank & Beals where the family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. A memorial fund has been established for the LaHarpe Christian Church, LaHarpe Fire Department or the Campus Students for Christ (WIU).
