Burlington, IA-  Authorities have announced the arrest of a man on multiple charges.

According to a news release, on Tuesday, July 27th, 2021, Deputies from the Des Moines County Sheriff’s Department were dispatched to the 6000-Block of Highway 61 for a caller reporting that a motorcycle was broken down in the ditch and the man standing next to it appeared to be under the influence of drugs.

Once on scene, deputies saw the man sitting on the motorcycle.  The man was able to get the motorcycle back running and attempted to drive south before Deputies were able to speak with him.

The man pulled into a nearby business, where Deputies followed him. One of the Deputies recognized him as 42-year-old Justin Wayne Trout, formerly of Danville, Iowa.

Trout initially gave a false name to the deputies, who believed trout to be under the influence of drugs.  Deputies attempted to shut the motorcycle off. Trout then assaulted the Deputy and then proceeded to drive off on the motorcycle south on Highway 61. From there, Trout drove southbound in the northbound lane and drove over 90 MPH through a work zone.

Trout drove the motorcycle into Lee County, where the motorcycle stalled, then rolled into a ditch throwing Trout off and Deputies were able to place him in custody. Deputies learned that Trout had an outstanding arrest warrant from Lee County.

Deputies also learned through the course of the investigation that Trout had stolen the motorcycle from a residence in Danville the previous night.

Trout was taken to the hospital where he was cleared from hospital staff and then transported to the Des Moines County Jail. He is charged with; Eluding-25MPH over the speed limit 2nd offense, Speeding-25MPH over in Work zone, Assault on a Peace Officer, Driving Wrong Way on a two-lane Highway, OWI 1st Offense, Interference with Official Acts, Theft 2nd Degree, Driving While license revoked and for a Lee County Warrant for Absent from Custody. Trout remains in the Des Moines County Jail on a $63,000.00 bond.
