Iowa truck driver arrested for drug possession

Carthage, Ill- The Hancock County sheriff’s office has announced the arrest of an Iowa truck driver for drug possession.

According to a news release, on Thursday, September 2nd, 2021, at about 3 AM, the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a lost and disoriented semi-truck driver.

A Sheriff’s Deputy located the semi-truck and driver on County Road 1000N near the intersection with County Road 2600E. The driver had put the semi-truck into the ditch. He was reporting that there were people trying to get into his truck and trailer. No one else was located at the scene but the driver persisted that people were there trying to get in his truck.

Hancock County EMS was called to the scene and the driver signed a refusal for treatment.

The driver, 56-year-old John D. Last of Ottumwa, IA, consented to a search of the semi-truck. Methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia were located in the truck.

Last was arrested and transported to the Hancock County Jail.
