Carolyn Bouquet, 89, a lifelong resident of Burlington, passed away on September 6, 2021. She was born on April 14, 1932, the daughter of Carl and Marian Gibb Wachutka. Known by her classmates as “Kayo”, Carolyn graduated from Burlington High School in 1950 where she was a BHS cheerleader. She went on to graduate from Iowa State Teachers College (now UNI) in 1952. Carolyn married Warren “Nick” Bouquet on June 20, 1952. Meeting over a cup of coffee at the former Lincolnville Diner, he would call her “Joe”, a nickname that lasted through their 55 years of marriage until Nick’s death in 2007.

Carolyn was employed by the Burlington Community School District until her retirement. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church singing in the choir and playing hand bells. She was a volunteer at Great River Medical Center, a Singing Ambassador with the Burlington Chamber of Commerce, Board Member of Great River Medical Center Friends, and past President of Burlington Fire Fighters Auxiliary. Carolyn was an avid bridge player for over 50 years and enjoyed watching Jeopardy.

Carolyn was passionately committed to Iowa Order of Rainbow for Girls and Eastern Star. She served as Grand Martha, Mother Advisor for the Burlington Assembly, but her most rewarding experience was being Executive State Mother Advisor for Iowa Rainbow.

She is survived by three children James Bouquet (Catherine) of Spotsylvania, Virginia, Sandra Carslick (James) of Brunswick, Maine, Robert Bouquet (Chriss), of Allen Texas. Carolyn is also survived by her grandchildren, greatgrandchildren, nieces, nephews and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband Warren, parents Carl & Marian Wachutka, step-father Herbert Walters, Brother James Wachutka and step-sister Virginia Cherre.

The family recognizes and thanks all those who supported Mom during her illness, including, but surely not limited to, Bob and Judy Adams, Judy Bowden, Lois Close, Nephew Neil Wachutka and wife Jane, and the staff of Ridgeview Assisted Living and Great River Medical Center.

The family is planning a private graveside service with a Celebration of Life to be held at the First United Methodist Church at a later date.

Mr. Everett Lee Hatch, 88, of Burlington, died at 8:05 a.m. Friday, September 3, 2021, at Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in West Burlington.
Born July 26, 1933 in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, he was the son of Walter William and Anna Marie (Scott) Hatch. He married Martha M. Scott February 22, 1955 in Mt. Pleasant and she preceded him in death on October 19, 1983. Everett and Judy Kay Furnald became life partners in 1988 and remained together until his passing.
Everett graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School and Iowa Wesleyan College with a degree in Religious Studies. He was a Korean War Veteran serving in the United States Army. He worked as a Metropolitan Life Insurance Agent in Burlington from 1960 until 1988.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Burlington, Moose Lodge #579, Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #150. He enjoyed bowling, traveling, playing pool, darts, boating, racing, and fishing trips to Minnesota. He was an avid Iowa Hawkeye Fan, and enjoyed Saturday afternoon movie matinees with Judy and family where he would get his afternoon nap in. Everett enjoyed going to the Casino and investing in lottery tickets.
Surviving are; Judy Kay Furnald of Burlington; his children, David (Connie Reynolds) Hatch of Burlington, Jacqueline (Keith)Richardson Price of Ogden, UT; seven grandchildren, Scott, Eric, Ben, Chad, Rachel, Maddie, and Alex; three great grandchildren, Kolbie, Collins, and Jove; sister, Martha Queen of Keokuk; and Judy’s sons which he included as his own, Nick Furnald of Omaha, NE, Jay Furnald of Minneapolis, MN, and Peter (Kathy) Furnald of Burlington.
Everett was preceded in death by his wife, parents, one sister Virginia and one brother Jim.
The funeral service for Everett Lee Hatch will be 11 a.m. Thursday, September 9th in Lunning Chapel with Rev. Melisa Bracht-Wagner officiating. Military rites will be conducted by the Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard and the Army. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.
Friends may call from noon until 7 p.m. on Wednesday, September 8th, where the family will receive friends 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. in Lunning Chapel.

Virginia Mae Lox, 100, of Gladstone, Illinois, passed away at 10:35 p.m. Thursday, September 2, 2021 at the Oak Lane Nursing & Rehab in Stronghurst.

Virginia was born on May 12, 1921 in Philadelphia, Missouri the daughter of Joseph C. and Arilla Mae (Nutting) Ament. On May 10, 1945 Virginia married Lawrence Lox. He preceded her in death in January of 1980.

Virginia worked for IAAP in Burlington during World War II and again during the Vietnam Conflict. During World War II she assisted the Ground Observers Corp monitoring airplane traffic. She also worked for the Henderson County Home Health. She was a member of the former Gladstone VFW Auxiliary, Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary and the Gladstone United Methodist Church.

Virginia enjoyed quilting, needle pointing, fishing and reading.

Survivors include two sons: Dick Lox of Warsaw, Illinois and Randy (Jeannine) Lox of Glasford, Illinois; twelve grandchildren: Regina (Ed) Balmer, Melissa (Levi) Pitford, Brian (Alison) Lox, Wendy (Steve) Dilley, Jeff (Kelly) Lox, Jacob (Lindsey) Lox, Debbie (Tom) Moss, Rod (Alicia) Rider, Terri (Kirt) Mercer, Cindy (Jeff) Goodwin, Lori (Gerald) Lowry and Dixie (Ed) Wilkerson; 40 great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren.

Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, one step daughter: Marlene Rider; two brothers: Virgil and Marvin Ament and one sister in infancy.

A graveside service will be held at a later date in the Oquawka Cemetery, Oquawka, Illinois. A memorial fund has been established for the Gladstone Fire Department.

Connie Jo Nuebel, 66, formerly of Burlington, died and was rejoined with the love of her life, at 5:00 AM Thursday, September 2, 2021, at Pearl Valley Rehab in Muscatine.

Born January 13, 1955, in Burlington, IA, she was the daughter of John and Hazel Mae Stratton Petty. On June 12, 1975, she married Virgil Lee Nuebel in Burlington. He passed on May 4, 2018.

Connie enjoyed playing Bingo, Dominos and on the computer. She could be found our in her garden, that her husband designed for her or at the Casino Boat. She loved to spend time with her family and her dog and cats.

Survivors include her siblings Claudia Petty of Burlington, Bill (DiAnna) Petty of Wapello, Roberta (John) Hamilton of Burlington, Richard (Debbie) Petty of Denmark, Marsha Lucille Petty of Burlington, and Brenda (David) Larkin of Burlington, IA; her God Daughter, Amanda Jordan of Davenport, IA, and Misty Grelk of St Louis, MO and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband, she is preceded in death by her parents and three sisters, Sally Gann, Linda Faulkner and Mary Grelk.

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory.

There will be no visitation or services.

Peggy Ann Spiker, 67, of Terre Haute, Illinois passed away at 10:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 1, 2021 at her home.

Peggy was born on September 19, 1953 in Macomb, Illinois, the daughter of Ivan D. and Shirley (Kuegler) Stoneking. Peggy married Rodney Evans. He preceded her in death.

Peggy enjoyed shopping, going out to eat, and wearing jewelry. She was a hard worker with a loving heart.

Survivors include her long-term companion: Gary Grisham; her children, Stacy (Daniel) Shockey, Jamie (Debi) Evans all of Independence, Missouri, Angela (Ted) Rodeffer of LaHarpe and Amy Wales of Huntsville; fourteen grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. Also surviving is one sister: Sandy Stoneking of Augusta, Illinois and three nieces: Samantha Kovach, Melissa (Sam) Thomas and Dakota McCallister.

Peggy was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one brother: Donnie Stoneking and one sister: Mary Lou Kelly.

Cremation has been entrusted to Banks & Beals Funeral Home.

Becky Eileen Piper (Ray) was born the third child of five in Thayer, MO on October 6, 1959. She was raised in Washington (Sunnyland) and Pekin, IL.
Becky was a Rocker Chick and she always knew how to make others laugh. Her work ethic (mostly as a Glorified Cleaning Agent, she called it) was unmatched.
She married Bruce Shelman in Mediapolis, IA in 1987 (through 2000). She was a fiercely devoted mother to Nikcole Landon (Shelman) and Danielle Shelman.
Becky raised her daughters in Burlington, IA. She married David Piper in 2003. He nurtured her daughters as his own. Becky became single in 2009 and lived independently the rest of her days.
Becky held tight to her faith in God, especially during the last year of her life. ALS destroyed her body but not her spirit. Becky gained her wings with Jesus on August 30, 2021 in Burlington, IA.
Becky leaves behind her two daughters, Nikcole Landon and Danielle Shelman, an adopted daughter, Mary McKenzie of Burlington, IA, seven grandchildren, and her close friend Tom Upton of Mediapolis, IA. Her siblings are Steve Ray of Wentzville, MO; Suzanne Green of Edinburgh, Scotland; Stacey Luby of West Jordan, Utah and Jon Ray of Northlake, TX.
Her cremated remains will be laid to rest in Washington, IL beside her mother YVonne Ray and grandmother Mabel Allen.

Randall Loren Dykes, 62, of Burlington, died at 1:38 AM Wednesday, September 1, 2021, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in West Burlington.

Born March 18, 1959, in Burlington, he was the son of Harley and Myrtle Jones Dykes. On October 21, 2016 he married Alicia Saben.

He enjoyed hunting for arrowheads, motorcycles, and the go fast.

Survivors include his wife, Alicia; two sons, Jason and Dustin Dykes both of Burlington; two step- children, Mia and Will Kirchner of Burlington: two brothers, Danny Petty and Todd (Kathy) Dykes both of Burlington; 10 grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, sister Connie Thornton, brother, Ronald Petty, and a daughter Adona Ralston.

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory.

There will be no services at this time.
