West Burlington, IA-  The West Burlington School Board has decided to reinstate their mask mandate for staff and students.

The Hawk Eye reports that the motion was passed at a special board meeting on Tuesday, September 14th, 2021.  The decision was made after a federal judge blocked the Iowa law which banned mask mandates in schools.

Superintendent Lisa Beames presented the latest COVID-19 data from this school year, which showed 29 students and six staff members testing positive for the virus.

An amendment to postpone the vote until the next board meeting on September 20th was shot down, and the motion passed by a 3 to 1 vote.

The mandate goes into effect on Thursday, September 16th.
