Bobby Jack Moyer, 86, of Burlington, went to his heavenly home at 10:50 AM Thursday, September 16, 2021, at Unity Point Health-Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines. He is now with his savior, Jesus and reunited with family.

Bobby was born February 15, 1935, in New Boston, IL. He was the son of Albert and Bessie Burtalo Moyer.

He graduated from Burlington High School, and served 5 years in the United States Army.

Bobby worked for the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant for over 40 years.

He was a member of the Salvation Army; he was a faithful gentleman who loved the Lord, and his family. Bobby was a true Hawkeye fan, avid fisherman, he liked jokes, and spending time on the Mississippi River. His Nephew and Nieces remember a quiet man, who also enjoyed motorcycles and boats.

Survivors include his brother, Jim Moyer of Elmira, OR, numerous nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two nieces, Donna and Jane Moyer, nephew, Charles; sister, Mary Herrera, brothers, Elmer, and John.

A private graveside committal will be held at Burlington Memorial Park Cemetery

Kandi Michelle Stratton, 61, of Burlington, died at 1:07 PM Sunday, September 19, 2021, at the New London Nursing and Rehab.

Born September 20, 1959, in Burlington, IA, she was the daughter of Dale and Suzanne Renninger Adams. She married David Edward Stratton in Galesburg, IL in August of 2005. He passed on October 28, 2017.

She was a lifelong cook and worked for Jerry’s Main Lunch, The Hungry Bear and at Snappi Service.

She was of Lutheran faith and attended Bethany Lutheran Church. She was a cat lover and enjoyed fishing. Kandi will be remembered as a loving wife and mother.

Survivors include her daughter, Jessie Hills of Danville, IL; sons, Joey Bowman of Burlington, IA, and Patrick Bowman of Michigan; grandchildren, Joy Sterling and Emmanuel Love; her beloved cat, Maddy; siblings, Dayle Schenk of Florida, Melanie Adams of Burlington, Mike Adams of Florida, and Steve Adams of Bloomington, IL; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Dave, one infant daughter, Krystal Hills, and one sister, Toni Eastin.

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory.

Teresa G. Hillman, 63, of Burlington, died September 20, 2021 at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House.
Born September 7, 1958 in Aurora, IL, she was the daughter of Charles Sullivan and Betty (Green) Lamb. She married Donald Hillman January 4, 1977 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Burlington.
Teresa worked as a C.N.A. at Burlington Care Center, Elm View, Great River Klein Center and Great River Medical Center on the Med./surg. Floor, Critical Care unit.
Teresa was an excellent care giver. She had a huge heart. She loved her grandkids and great-grandkids, they were everything to her. She took great pleasure in her purses, jewelry and time spent with her dogs.
Survivors include her husband Donald Hillman of Burlington; three children, Shannon (Marla Carpenter) Hillman of Burlington, Donald James Hillman of Ft. Madison, and Eric (Waymanita) Hillman of Illinois; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; her mother, Betty Lamb of Burlington; three siblings, Margie Parker of Burlington, Ray Lamb of Lone Tree, and Patty Wever of Burlington.
She was preceded in death by her father and step-father, Raymond Lamb.
The funeral service for Teresa will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, September 25th at Lunning Chapel. Mr. Nate Bridges will officiate. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Visitation will be 11:00 a.m. until the time of service.
A memorial has been established.
Cremation will be entrusted to Lunning Chapel following the services.

Paul Cluney, 73, of Grimsley, TN, passed away on September 2, 2021 at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center in Knoxville, TN.
Born Nov. 5, in Burlington, Iowa, he was the youngest son of Nelson and Blanche (Heller) Cluney.

Paul was a quiet, conscientious man who enjoyed living a simple life at home in Tennessee with his beloved dog, Tater. Very much self-reliant, he liked tending to his land, building things and doing his own repairs of anything when able. For much of his working life he was a truck driver, and in his younger years enjoyed 3 years of service in the US Navy. A true patriot, Paul loved this country and had a deep knowledge and understanding of it.
Although he was a private man, Paul appreciated his local church community and neighbors and was well-liked by those who knew him. Armed with a good sense of humor, he had a knack for telling family stories of adventures, (and a few misadventures). And despite having numerous to remember, he always made a point to call his children and grandchildren on their birthdays. He will be sorely missed by those close to him.

He is survived by 3 children, Teresa Legge of Jax., Fla, Paula Cluney of Portland, Maine and Mark Cluney of Macon. Ga., 9 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren and one brother, Eugene.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter Carolyn Cluney, 5 brothers, Harley, Harold, LeRoy, Lloyd and Richard, one sister, Leona and 2 great grandchildren Nikolas and Paul.

There will be a graveside memorial service held by Lunning Chapel on Sept. 26, 12:00 p.m. at Memorial Park Cemetery in Burlington, Iowa.

Sharon Lee Carspecken, 85, of Burlington, died at 4:54 PM Saturday, September 18, 2021 at her home.

Born June 30, 1936, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Albert and Marion Hamilton Orth. On September 20, 1958, she married Jack Carspecken in Burlington.

She graduated from Burlington High School in 1954.

Sharon worked for the telephone company, for Mississippi Valley Savings and Loan Association and later for Des Moines County Abstract Company, a family owned business, until her retirement.

The most important aspect in Sharon’s life was her family. She was of Catholic faith and a member of Divine Mercy Parish. She also taught CCD. She enjoyed crocheting, playing bridge with friends, reading, gardening, and sewing and was a fan of the Chicago Cubs. She loved to be at the lake and go fishing. Although Christmas was her favorite, she made all holidays special. She was also a Girl Scout leader and made hundreds of angels for Hospice.

Survivors include her husband, Jack of Burlington; daughters, Karen (Kent) Belmont of Oskaloosa, IA, Ann (Bryan) Humphrey of Burlington, Julie (Calvin) Gaddis of Burlington, and Joanie (Bill) Price of Burlington, IA; grandchildren, Cody Landgrebe, Zachary Belmont, Grant Humphrey, Maggie Peterson, Keith Gaddis, and Alexandra Stetson, Paige Stahly, Sydney Terranella, Sophie, Sunny, Arnold, and Sergio Price; great-grandchildren, Zoe and Memphis Landgrebe, Peyton, Porter, Jack Humphrey, Rayleigh White, Kaedi and Acacia Gaddis, and Abel and Willa Stahly, brothers, Tom (Judy) Orth of Burlington, Dan (Sue) Orth of Burlington, Tim (Bambi) Orth of Burlington, Bart (Ellen) Orth of Burlington, Rick (Carrie) Orth of Burlington, IA, and Tony (Carol Ann) Orth of Burlington; sister, Beth (Landis) Hinesley of Las Cruces, NM; and sisters-in-law, Sherri Orth of Utah, and Kathy Orth of Burlington several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one grandson, Shea Belmont and three brothers, Albert Jr., Henry and Pete Orth.

Due to the rise of Covid-19, the family has requested that everyone in attendance of the services to social distance and wear a mask.

The family will receive friends from noon until 1:00 PM Thursday, September 23, 2021 at Divine Mercy Parish – St. John the Baptist Catholic Church.

The Funeral Mass of the Resurrection for Mrs. Carspecken will be 1:00 PM Thursday, September 23, 2021, at Divine Mercy Parish-St. John the Baptist Catholic Church with Rev. James Flattery as the Celebrant. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.

Memorials have been established for the Burlington Area Home Hospice and Divine Mercy Parish.

Hoyt C. Griffin, Jr. 81, of Morning Sun passed away on Wednesday, September 15, 2021 at Wapello Specialty Care. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service on Friday, September 24, 2021 at the Solid Rock Baptist Church. Funeral Service will be 12:00 p.m. on Friday, September 24, 2021 at the church. Following the funeral service, a time of food and fellowship will be held at the church. Graveside services will be held at Elmwood Cemetery, Morning Sun at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, September 24, 2021. A memorial has been established in Hoyt’s name. Hoyt Carter Griffin, Jr. was born on December 6, 1939 in Burlington, Iowa, the son of Hoyt C., Sr. and Thelma (Caperoon) Griffin. Hoyt graduate from Morning Sun High in 1958 and went on to serve his country in the United State Army. He attended Northern Iowa Teachers College and studied Journalism at The University of Iowa. In 1963, he was united in marriage to Denise Mau in Davenport. He later married Linda Cowdrey at the Centenary United Methodist Church in Morning Sun in 1986. Hoyt worked at The Pentagon, Secret Service and other Federal agencies climbing his way to high ranks before his retirement in 1994. He was a member of the Centenary United Methodist Church and attended Solid Rock Baptist Church in Wapello where he served as a Deacon and also gave Sermons. Hoyt was very involved in Boy Scouts and the Morning Sun Lions Club, holding the office of District Governor of the Lions Clubs.

Hoyt will be deeply missed by his wife, Linda; children, Hoyt Carter “Butch” Griffin III of Bolingbrook, Illinois and Christina Griffin-Artman of Charlotte, North Carolina; step-daughter, Lynne Zelinsky of Champaign, Illinois and grandchildren, Matthew Carter Griffin and Violet Griffin.

Hoyt was preceded in death by his father, Hoyt C. Griffin, Sr.; his mother, Thelma McKee; his 1st wife, Denise Griffin; grandson, Travis Nichols and aunt, Velma Orr.

James Joseph Cordes, 89, of New London, died Sunday, April 26, 2020 at Great River Medical Center, West Burlington. He was born September 27, 1930 in Howard County, Iowa to Joseph James and Florence Long Cordes. On January 5, 1979, he married Louise M. Laneville at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Mt. Pleasant.
Following high school graduation in Waterloo where he wrestled, he served in the Navy during the Korean War. He was a member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church and New London VFW Post 7641. For many years, Jim provided all of the tomatoes for VFW Taco night. After leaving the service, Jim became a car salesman and eventually a car dealer owning a Pontiac dealership in Waterloo and GM, Dodge and Ford dealerships in Waterloo, Mt. Pleasant and New London. Besides work, he loved horses, all sports, cheering for the Cubs, Bears and Hawkeyes, and was an absolutely #1 devoted fan of the New London Tigers.
Besides his wife, Jim is survived by his children; Cathy Cordes of Dallas, Texas, Susan (Rick) Miller of Waterloo, Tony Cordes of Waterloo, Steven (Lori) Sproul of Ft. Madison, Mary (John) Phillips of San Tan Valley, Arizona and Joseph James (Kelsey) Cordes of Gilbert, Arizona; grandchildren; Jack Miller, J.W. (Blaire) Phillips, Shelby (Troy) Henning, Anika Sproul, Drew Nolting, Megan Nolting, A.J. Nolting and Hudson Cordes; great-grandson Dash Henning; one brother John Cordes of Waterloo; one sister Mavis Differding of Jesup; and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother.
A graveside inurnment will be held at 12:30 Monday, September 27, 2021 at St. Alphonsus Catholic Cemetery in Mt. Pleasant with Father Paul Connolly officiating. Immediately following the service, a luncheon and Celebration of Jim’s life will be held at VFW Post 7641 at 802 E. McKinley, New London. A memorial has been established for VFW Post 7641. Mr. Tod M. Walker, 56, of Burlington, died at 4:30 p.m. Friday, September 17, 2021, at his home.
Born December 1, 1964 in Des Moines, Iowa, he was the son of David A. & Marcia M. (Elmore) Walker. He married Marlena L. Fainter July 27, 2021 in Iowa City.
Tod graduated from Notre Dame in 1983. He attended Loras College in Dubuque, IA and in 1990 graduated from the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy. Tod was a Police Officer for the City of Burlington for 17 years. Most recently a Journeyman Electrician at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant.
He was of the Christian faith. He was a member of the I.B.E.W Local #13, and the #1 Minnesota Viking fan. Tod enjoyed hanging out with his family and loved sitting outside listening to the rain.
Surviving is his wife Marlena Walker of Burlington; his children, Justin D. Walker and grandson Tod H. Walker of Burlington, Hiliary E. (Brandon) McKay and grandson Rory A. McKay of Reynolds, IL., Hannah N. (Landon) Wuethrich and granddaughter Cora M. Wuethrich of St. Charles, MO; stepchildren Keeley & Megan Switzer of Tampa, FL. and his parents David & Marcia Walker of Burlington.
Tod was preceded in death by his maternal & paternal grandparents.
The family will receive friends from 3-4:30 p.m. Tuesday, September 21, 2021 at Lunning Chapel with a Celebration of Life following at the Trax in FunCity from 5-7:00 p.m.
According to his wishes, cremation has been accorded and entrusted to the care of Lunning Chapel following the visitation.
A memorial to the Burlington Police Department has been established.

Mr. Jeffrey Alan Purchase, 46, of Burlington formerly of Oquawka, died at 1:17 p.m. Friday, September 17, 2021, at Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in West Burlington.
Born April 20, 1975 in Evanston, Illinois, he was the son of Henry Lester and Mary Jane (Guenther) Purchase. He married Rebecca Jo “Becky” Kroll November 28, 2009 in Burlington.
Jeff graduated from Union High School in 1993 and Southeastern Community College Agriculture Program. He was owner and operator of Purchase Trucking, and a farmer raising row crops and Livestock.
Jeff was a sponsor of F.F.A. He enjoyed tractor pulling, playing cards, trivia & model trains. He was an avid hunter & sportsman. Jeff was a friend to everybody.
Surviving his wife Rebecca Jo “Becky” Purchase; stepfather & mother Kevin & Mary Morris of Oquawka, IL.; stepmother Nancy Purchase of Oquawka, IL: siblings Eddy (Jaime Wendt) Purchase of Kirkwood, IL, Ashley (Bri Insteness) Purchase of Eau Claire, WI; Jillian (Cory) Reffett of Knoxville, IL and Abby Purchase of Oquawka, IL; mother-in-law Sheila Kroll, brother-in-law Tom Kroll, sister-in-law Julie Minster and several nieces, nephews, Aunts, Uncles and Cousins.
Jeff was preceded in death by his Paternal & Maternal grandparents, his father Henry Purchase, cousins Jill Zielkie & Jennifer Burton and his Beloved Blue heeler Britches.
Celebration of life will be held at a later date. An Agricultural memorial has been established.
