Des Moines County hosting prescribed burn workshop

Burlington, IA-  Des Moines County Conservation will be hosting a workshop on the basics of prescribed fire.

Residents can learn the basics of controlled burning and how it’s used as a habitat management tool.  Classes will cover burn equipment, techniques, and how the conservation department conducts prescribed fires. Class will conclude with a demonstration burn, weather permitting.

Participants are asked to wear appropriate clothing, such as long pants, sleeves a hat, and leather gloves.

This course is not for certification purposes, it is only meant to be instructional and to introduce participants to the basics of conducting prescribed fires. All class participants will have the option of joining the department’s prescribed fire volunteer list to be invited to help conduct burns in county parks in the future.

The free class is presented by Des Moines County Conservation and Pheasants Forever and will take place at Big Hollow Recreation Area Maintenance Shops.
