Burlington man arrested for drunk driving

Burlington, IA- The Des Moines County Sheriff’s Office has announced the arrest of a Burlington man for drunk driving.

On Friday, September 23rd at about 1:34 AM a Des Moines County Deputy stopped a vehicle at Summer St. and Madison Ave. after observing it cross over the center line multiple times.

While speaking to the driver, 27-year-old Nicolas Alexander Harol Atwood of Burlington, The deputy observed signs of impairment and Atwood admitted to consuming alcoholic beverages.

The deputy asked Atwood to perform standardized field sobriety testing and Atwood refused. Atwood was then asked if he would take a preliminary breath test and he refused that also.

Atwood was placed under arrest for operating while intoxicated and transported to the Des Moines County Jail. At the jail, a breath sample was requested from Atwood, and he refused. Atwood was charged with operating while intoxicated and his bond was set at $1000.00
