Burlington, IA-  The President and CEO of the Greater Burlington Partnership has released a statement showing support for the local option sales tax on the ballot this November.

In a “letter to the editor,” GBP President and CEO Della Schmidt showed support for the local option sales tax referendum, frequently referred to as Pennies for Progress.

The letter states that ” Fifty percent of the revenue generated by Pennies for Progress has been used to provide property tax relief, something all Burlington residents should want to see continue. Without the successful extension of the Local Option Sales Tax property taxes will go up.”

The letter also states that those sales tax funds are used to aid in funding for multiple local municipalities, including fire and police, as well as community enhancements.

Schmidt also stated that a bulk of the local sales tax is collected from non-residents who come to shop in Burlington.
