Burlington, IA-  The Burlington City Council on Monday approved a revised version of the city’s Sidewalk Improvement Program.

The city will be evaluating sidewalks along busy streets and prioritizing the ones in most need of repairs.

Property owners who have deficient sidewalks will be notified by the city with notice that funds will be available through the city if they choose to repair the sidewalk.   The city would reimburse $18 per lineal foot of sidewalk for approved panels.  Funds would only apply to public sidewalks.

The Hawk Eye reports that a different part of the plan allows residents to have the city replace their sidewalk through a special assessment.  Residents would pay a $25 dollar fee along with the monthly cost.

The Council agreed to a 5-year repayment plan at an interest rate of 3%.
