Victim in West Burlington mobile home fire identified

West Burlington, IA- Authorities have identified the person killed in a West Burlington mobile home fire.

At 2:37 am Thursday, January 6, 2022, the Burlington Fire Department, and deputies with the Des Moines County Sheriff’s Office, were alerted to a mobile home on fire at the Timberline Estates Mobile Home Park at 14876 Washington Road, rural West Burlington in Flint River Township.

Deputies arrived first and reported a mobile home fully involved in fire at lot 193. Firefighters arrived at 2:46 am and began firefighting operations and had the fire under control at 3:18 am.

During a search of the mobile home, a body was located. The Iowa State Medical Examiner’s office in Ankeny has identified the body as 54-year-old Lisa Joy McCoy. The Medical Examiner determined that Ms. McCoy dies as a result of smoke inhalation. Ms. McCoy was the sole occupant of the mobile home.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Burlington Fire Department, the Des Moines County Sheriff’s office, and the Iowa State Fire Marshal’s office.
