Burlington School Board approves second reading of new mask policy

Burlington, IA-  The Burlington School Board has approved the second reading of its revised mask policy.

The Burlington beacon reports that the second and final reading of the new policy was approved nearly unanimously by the board, with only one vote against.

The policy reduced the tier system used for determining masking requirements from three tiers to just two, and also raises the minimum positivity rate numbers to determine what tier of masking the school will require.

The two tiers include, Tier One; No masks required if the positivity rate is 12% or below, and Tier Two; Masks required during school hours when students are present if the positivity rate is between 12.1 and 20%.

According to the new policy, masks will not be required during extracurricular activities , such as concerts and sporting events.
