Burlington, IA-  Republican State Senator Tim Goodwin of Burlington has announced his decision to retire at the end of 2022.

According to an announcement from senator Goodwin,  The recently approved redistricting maps placed Senator Goodwin and fellow Senator Jeff Reichman of Montrose, in the same newly created Senate District 50.

“It has been an honor to serve southeast Iowa in the State Senate,” said Goodwin. “In the Senate, we have accomplished more in my short tenure as some elected officials achieve in decades. Last year we gave parents a choice to have their children in school full time, eliminated a property tax levy, expanded 2nd Amendment rights, and passed a strong bill supporting law enforcement. This year we are positioned to implement generational income tax relief for all Iowans. I am proud to be a part of all of it.”

Senator Goodwin has identified opportunities outside the Iowa Senate, which will be announced at a later date. With Senator Goodwin’s announcement, Senator Reichman’s term will run through 2024.

Senator Goodwin was elected to the Iowa Senate in 2020, defeating former Senator, democrat Tom Courtney.
