Obituaries for Monday February 28th

Harriet D. Redwine, 96, of Wapello and formerly of the Grandview area, passed away on Thursday, February 24, 2022 at Wapello Specialty Care.   Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. on Friday, March 4, 2022 at the Grandview Community Bible Church.  Rev. Darryl Erickson will officiate.  Interment will be in North English Cemetery.  Visitation will be held from 12:00 p.m. until the time of service on Friday at the church.   Memorials may be directed to the Grandview Community Bible Church in Harriet’s name. Harriet Delores Schauff was born on March 8, 1925 in What Cheer, Iowa, the daughter of Merle and Laura (Knipfer) Schauff.  Harriet was a graduate of North English High School.  While working at a local café, Harriet met her future husband, Herman.    On February 3, 1945, Harriet was united in marriage to Herman M. Redwine on February 3, 1945 in What Cheer, Iowa.  Harriet  worked as a clerk at Gladfelder pharmacy for many years.  She and her husband also worked as custodians at the Grandview Community Bible Church where Harriet also served on the Women’s Missionary and Women’s Fellowship Committees.

Harriet will be missed by her son, Steve (Debbie) Redwine of Burlington; three grandchildren; sister, Marlene (Jerry) Todd of Newton, Missouri and special friends, Marvin and Peachie Buffington of Wapello.

Harriet was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Herman on September 4, 2024; sister, Doris Brock and brother Ronnie Schauff.

 

Karen Joy Bush Hale, age 81, of Burlington received her angel wings on February 24, 2022.

Karen was born April 1, 1940 in Fairfield, Iowa.  She was the daughter of Lawrence and Marie (Simmons) Bush.

On December 27, 1959 she married Larry Hale.  Together they celebrated 62 years of marriage.  They have two children, five grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Karen was a hairdresser, owning her own salon for many years and volunteered for Hospice.

She is preceded in death by her parents, infant brother Donald Eugene and brother Lane Bush of Fairfield.

Survivors include her husband, Larry, her children, Tonya (Scott) Powell, Doug (Debby) Hale, grandchildren Daniel (Mittzi) Powell, Elizabeth Swan, Michael (Nicole) Powell, Katelyn (Jordan) Adamson, James (Scarlet) Hale, great grandchildren, her sister Georgia Souza along with several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service for Mrs. Hale will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 1st at Lunning Chapel.  The Rev. Dean Graber will officiate.  Interment will be held in Burlington Memorial Park Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services on Tuesday.

Richard Henry Williamson, 88, of Burlington died peacefully at his home on February 24, 2022 with his family at his side. He was born on February 15, 1934 in Burlington to Arlo and Florence Williamson. He was a 1952 graduate of Burlington High School. He married Holly Tuchel on March 16, 1958 in Burlington.

He served in the U.S. Air Force for 4 years, spending the last 2 years working on high flying Reconnaissance Aircraft, RB-57D’s, and U-2’s for the Strategic Air Command “The Bad Ass Boys”. He worked at Champion Spark Plug for 32 years retiring in January 1991. He was on the Board of Directors of Three I Credit Union serving as President for 20 plus years and the Board of Directors of River Bend Credit Union for 14 years. He served on the Iowa Credit Union League Board for 12 years. The highlight of his credit union career was being involved in the creation of the Credit Union Auditing Procedure Manual that was used by the National Credit Union Association. He was an avid race fan and enjoyed snow skiing. He played fast-pitch softball when he was young and helped design and build the current softball field at Notre Dame. He was a member of the Eagles #150 for 70 years. He was a life-long member of Bethany Lutheran Church. His family was always number one. He was an accomplished world traveler and enjoyed spending time in Mazatlan, Mexico during winter for over 40 years.

He is survived by his wife Holly; two children, Gene (Carol) Williamson of Pella and Lori (Mark) Whalen of Burlington; five grandchildren, Dan (Kaitlyn) Whalen of Clive, Rachel Whalen of Burlington, Katie (Matt) Ness of Van Meter, Rick Williamson of Des Moines, and Anne (John) Dillon of Des Moines; five great grandchildren, Jasmine Colin of Burlington, and Emmie, Eli, Mabel, and Nathan Ness of Van Meter; three sisters, Nancy Vaughan of Burlington, Karen Underhill of Apple Valley, MN, and Kathy (Robert) Cusick of Mexico, MO. Preceding him in death were his parents and one brother, Eugene.

 

Marjorie Ann Ohnemus Wilson, 92, of New London, died Thursday, February 24, 2022 at Henry County Health Center.

The funeral service will be held at 10:00 am, March 5, 2022 at Elliott Chapel, New London with Pastor Rick Moorman officiating.  Family will greet friends one hour prior to the service.  Burial will follow at Burge Cemetery, New London.  Memorials have been established for Oakland Mills Community Church and Burge Cemetery.  Online condolences may be left at www.elliottfuneralchapel.com.

 

 

Daniel L. Wasson, 94, of West Memphis, AR, formerly of Burlington died Sunday, February 20, 2022 at The Springs of Broadway Nursing Home, West Memphis.

Born April 7, 1927 he was the son of Charles Dewey and Katherine Elizabeth (Loeffers) Wasson.

Daniel graduated from Burlington High School. He married Eileen H Luth on June 3, 1951 in Des Moines County, IA.

Daniel worked for 7-Up for 49 years, retiring in 1992 as production manager.

Survivors include his wife, Eileen; daughter Carol Diane Waters of Des Moines, IA; son Michael Walter Wasson of West Memphis, AR; grandson Sean Wasson of Horn Lake, MS; granddaughter Katherine Blume of Des Moines, IA; brother Charles “Chuck” Wasson of Burlington, IA.

Daniel was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers.

Graveside funeral service and interment for Daniel will be Friday, March 4, 2022 at 11:00 AM at Aspen Grove Cemetery.
