Carol Sue Cravens, age 74, of Gladstone, Illinois, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 20, 2022 at Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington, Iowa. She was born October 22, 1947 in Kankakee, Illinois, the daughter of Alvin and Geraldine Kohl Jacob. On August 24, 1968, she married Robert Cravens in Kankakee.

Carol is survived by her husband of 54 years: Robert, one daughter: Connie (Bill) Hansen of Lonoke, AR, one son: Allen (Lynette) Cravens of Gifford, IL, five grandchildren: Jacob and Bradley Hansen, and Tristan, Landon and Makenna Cravens, three step grandchildren, eight step great grandchildren, her goddaughter: Dakotah Ferguson of Bryan, TX, three sisters: Janet (Nick) Andreina, Sandy Green, and Vicky Jacob, all of Kankakee, and a host of family and friends.

Carol worked as a teacher’s aide for West Central School District. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and going on vacations, camping, and spoiling her fur babies. She was of the Catholic faith. The family would like to thank Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center and Hospice House for the loving care she received.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 25, 2022 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Stronghurst. Cremation Rites have been accorded. Interment of ashes will be in the East Lawn Cemetery in Urbana, Illinois, at a later date. Michael W. Jarvis, 73, of Niota, Illinois, died Wednesday, May 18, 2022, at the Illinois Veterans Home in Quincy, Illinois.
Born July 20, 1948, in Fort Madison, Iowa, he was the son of Gurden Lee and Evelyn K. (Schraber) Jarvis. He served in the Army during the Vietnam War from 1969-1970.
He married Donna Newberry on December 2, 1973, in Plymouth, Illinois.
Michael was a quality control inspector with J.I. Case for 30 years until his retirement in 2002. He was of the Christian faith and enjoyed attending services at the Illinois Veterans Home.
He loved time spent with his daughters and grandchildren. He was an avid collector of trinkets, anything from lawn mowers to butane lighters and keys. He had a wicked, but dry sense of humor. You never knew if he was serious or joking and had hundreds of tales and stories he loved to share.
He is survived by his wife Donna Jarvis of Niota, Illinois; three daughters, Sonya Jarvis of Burlington, Loriann (Donald) Kreie of Arlington, Washington and Danette Jarvis-Lawson of Denmark, Iowa; six grandchildren; one great grandchild; five brothers, Lamont Jarvis of Marshalltown, Iowa, Harry (Becky) Jarvis of Farmington, Iowa, Toby (Shelley) Jarvis of Fort Madison, Iowa and Robert (Julie) Jarvis and James Jarvis of Oquawka, Illinois; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Gurden, Eldon and Dennis.
The funeral service for Mr. Jarvis will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 23rd at Lunning Chapel. The Rev. Mark Baker will officiate. Entombment will be in Burlington Memorial Park Cemetery Mausoleum. The Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard will conduct military rites. Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. Sunday, May 22nd at Lunning Chapel where the family will receive friends.
A memorial will be established for St. Jude’s Children’s Hospitals.

Mary Joan Reid, 77, of West Burlington, died at 12:30 AM Friday, May 20, 2022, at her home.

Born December 27, 1944, in Fort Madison, IA, she was the daughter of Charles Edward and Mary Catherine Cormick Bertlshofer. On July 17, 1965, she married Larry P. Reid in St. Joseph’s Church in Ft. Madison.

She was a 1962 graduate of Central Lee High School.

She was a grain elevator operator for Twomeys for several years.

Joan was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. A homemaker at heart, she did everything she could to keep her house running smoothly. Most of all, she loved her family, and adored her grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband, Larry P. Reid of West Burlington, IA; two sons, Patrick (Pamela) Reid of Coralville, IA, and Derek (Jennifer) Reid of Burlington; four grandchildren, Kaiti, Marcus, Liam and Melanie Reid; four siblings, Carol (David) Faeth of Eldridge, IA, Chuck (Karen) Bertlshofer of Ft. Madison, IA, Judy (Ron) Hunsaker of Burlington, and Ed Bertlshofer of Ft. Madison, IA; and several nieces and nephews.

Janet Lucille Asmus, 86, of Middletown died Wednesday, May 18, 2022 at the Southeast Iowa Hospice House.
Born December 14, 1935 in Pleasant Grove, IA, she was the daughter of Fred and Fern Louise Stout Wilkerson.
Janet graduated from Danville High School with the class of 1954. She married Orrin Asmus on December 18, 1960 in Pleasant Grove, IA. She was a resident of Middletown for over 60 years.
She was a member of the Middletown Presbyterian Church where she served as Deacon, Sunday school teacher and vacation bible school teacher.
Janet enjoyed spending time outdoors, her pets, and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband, Orrin of Middletown; daughter Michele (Donald) Neff of West Burlington; siblings Becky (Terry) Rodeffer of West Burlington, Eileen (Ralph) Kleinkopf of Danville, Fritz Wilkerson of Burlington; grandchildren Alicia (Matthew), Brandi (Aaron), Justin (Samantha); great grandchildren Kayla, Dominic, Saige, Maddie and Dean.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father.
Cremation has been accorded and entrusted to Lunning Chapel. A Celebration of Life will be held at a future date.
Memorials have been established for the Southeast Iowa Hospice House and animal shelter/animal rescue of choice.

William Walter “Bill” Totemeier, 60, of New London, died as the result of an automobile accident. He was born February 1, 1962 in Burlington to Clarence Robert and Ruth Margaret Lemon Totemeier. He was a 1980 graduate of New London High School.
On May 21, 1988 he married Julie Rucker in Burlington; they were married for thirty-two years. Bill was a lifelong farmer and a steward of the land. His passion was on regenerative grazing practices. He enjoyed fishing when he had the time; and in his later years, what was most important to him was spending time with his sons and grandchildren. He loved his cattle more than most people; was very independent; hated asking for help; and had fantastic mechanical ability. He was sexton and caretaker for Ferrell Cemetery, rural New London, of which he was fiercely protective.
Survivors include his sons Conrad (Alycia), Karl, and Detrich (Morgan) all of New London; grandchildren, Emma, Leif, Isla, Jensen and Elowyn; his ex-wife Julie; sister-in-law Debbie Totemeier; brother-in-law Edward Clydesdale; cousins; nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Carol Ann Baron and brother John Totemeier.

Garrett Lee Rupe, 28, of Burlington, died at 9:43 AM Saturday, May 14, 2022, at his home.

Born December 20, 1993, in Mount Pleasant, IA, he was the son of Philip Lee Rupe and Angela Lynn Krieger Rupe.

He worked for J&M Displays as a Transportation Manager.

Garrett was an old soul from birth. He always had an open ear, regardless of someone’s age or their interests. He would be happy to talk and listen to everyone. He was an incredible friend to have, and you could always count on him being in your corner. He always greeted people with a warm smile, a big hug, and created happiness wherever he went. He had a free spirit and curious mind, eager to learn all that he could, and would research tirelessly anything that caught his attention. Garrett loved his family, and was a very proud and protective big brother. He touched many lives, and will be missed by countless people.

Survivors include father, Phil Rupe of Burlington; mother, Angie Rupe of Burlington; one brother, Marshall (Amanda) Rupe of Tiffin, IA; maternal grandparents, Barb and Jerry Krieger of Sperry, IA; paternal grandmother, Nedra Rupe of Danville, IA; and several extended family members and friends.

He is preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Jerry Rupe.

The Funeral Mass of the Resurrection for Mr. Rupe will be 10:00 AM Monday, May 23, 2022, at St. Mary’s Church, Dodgeville with Very Rev. Father Marty Goetz as the Celebrant. A time of food and fellowship will be held in the Parish Center behind St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Dodgeville, following the service. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Dodgeville, at a later date.

Cremation will be entrusted to the Prugh Crematory.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established.
