Burlington man arrested for reckless use of a firearm, child endangerment

Burlington, IA-  The Des Moines County Sheriff’s Office has announced the arrest of a Burlington man for Child Endangerment, and Reckless Use of a Firearm.

According to a news release, on Wednesday, May 25th, at about 9:38 PM Des Moines County Deputies were dispatched to 11801 147th Avenue for a report of an adult male who was suicidal and intoxicated.

Deputies were advised the subject was in possession of a handgun and was threatening to shoot himself, and that his 2-year-old child was inside the residence with him.

Deputies arrived on the scene and heard a gunshot from inside the house. Deputies then observed a male walking around the interior of the residence. The male subject then placed a pistol on the kitchen counter and walked to the front door where he was detained.

The child was located by deputies in a crib inside a bedroom and was returned to the mother unharmed.

Deputies located a bullet hole in the wall of the bedroom where the child was located.

The man, 26-year-old Austen Floyd Adair Followwill of Burlington was arrested for child endangerment and reckless use of a firearm.
