Shirley Ballinger, 75, of Burlington, died Sunday, May 22, 2022, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, Iowa.
Born December 31, 1946, in Burlington, Iowa she was the daughter of Oliver and Margaret (Long) Bixby. She married Leslie P. Ballinger on April 2, 1966, in Burlington. He died January 24, 2018.
Shirley worked for Ace Florist and Gifts until they closed and then helped in the food services department at the Burlington school systems and Frericks Imports.
She was a member of First Christian Church ~ Disciples of Christ.
She loved to take rides in the street rod with Leslie and attend car shows and Old Threshers. She enjoyed gardening, tending to her flowers and time spent with her family and friends. She was very active with her church, faithfully attending bible studies and was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Survivors include her two daughters: Holly (Jason) Seager of Burlington and Amie (Rodney) McIntyre of Stronghurst, Illinois and four grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband Leslie.
The memorial funeral service for Shirley will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 27th at First Christian Church ~ Disciples of Christ. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the services.
A private family inurnment will be held at Greenwood Cemetery, West Burlington, Iowa.
Memorials have been established for First Christian Church ~ Disciples of Christ and the University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital in Iowa City.

Michael “Mike” Robert Martin, 74, of Mt. Pleasant, formerly of New London, died Monday, May 23, 2022, at University of Iowa Hospitals, Iowa City. He was born in Des Moines, January 31, 1948 to Robert Milton and Vera Myrtle Otto Martin.
He was a 1966 graduate of Burlington High School. On December 21, 1970 he married Donna Rae Wilson in Ft. Madison.
Mike worked in manufacturing and as a security guard for West Liberty Foods. He was a diehard Chicago Bears and Iowa Hawkeyes fan; enjoyed target shooting; attending his children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events; and loved watching Sci-Fi programs on TV, especially “Supernatural”.

Survivors include his wife of Mt. Pleasant; daughter Wendy (Mike) Neal of North Liberty; son Randy (Gwen) Martin of Mt. Pleasant; four grandchildren, Jessica, Gunnar, Jennifer, and Martin (Kendra); and one sister Judy Topp of South Carolina. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, May 28, 2022 at Elliott Chapel, New London with Pastor Nathan Cooper officiating. Visitation will begin at 9:00 am with the family receiving friends beginning at 10:00 until the time of the service. According to his wishes his body has been cremated and inurnment will be held at a later date. A memorial has been established for New London Fire and Rescue. Mrs. Helen L. Weilbrenner, 93, of Burlington died Monday, May 23, 2022 at Oakview Nursing and Rehab Center.
Born October 16, 1928 in Burlington, she was the daughter of George A. and Lavina F. Hancock Tenhaaf. She was of the Christian faith.
Helen graduated from Burlington High School. On October 17, 1948 she married Donald J. Weilbrenner. He died March 8, 1987.
She was a telephone operator for Northwestern Bell for 35 years, retiring in 1982.
Helen was known for her handiwork and she enjoyed gardening.
Survivors include her daughter Judi (Keith) Newland of Burlington; granddaughter Shannon Lundquist of Burlington and sister Ruth Wyborny of Burlington.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and two brothers.
The Graveside service for Mrs. Weilbrenner will be 2pm Friday, May 27, 2022 at Aspen Grove Cemetery with Reverend Kendall Adams officiating.
A memorial has been established for the Des Moines County Humane Society.

Norman Pilgram, 82, of Burlington, went to be with the Lord on Friday, May 20, 2022.

Born August 2, 1939, in Burlington, he was the son of Frederick and Nora E. (Bonar) Pilgram. On December 31, 1962, he married the love of his life, Marilyn Kay Brown, in Burlington. She passed June 27, 1998.

He was a U.S. Army Veteran, serving as a medic during the Vietnam War.

Norm worked as an electrician for over 60 years. He started his career working for Keith’s Electric before he started his own business, Norm’s Electric, that he ran for 35 years before retiring. In addition, he was also the proprietor of R&R Development that he operated until his death.

He was a member of Shoquoquon Boat Club and enjoyed spending time on the river. Norman enjoyed spending time at his farm with all of his animals. He was an avid hunter and “river rat”. But most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his granddaughters and his dog Nahla. Norm will be remembered for his hard work ethic, his ornery streak and the pranks he played on his friends and family.

Survivors include his daughter, Rhonda Pilgram-Brown of Burlington; four granddaughters, Brandy Brown of FL, Heidi Brown of NC, Brittany (Korey) Boughton-Baker of Burlington, Brooklyn (Grant Corzatt) Boughton of Sperry; and one sister, Betty (Tom) Berry of OR.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Rachelle Pilgram-Boughton, one brother, Gary Pilgram and his father-in-law/partner in crime, Claude Brown.

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory.

Per his wishes, there will be no visitation or services.

Dolores Anne Hoffer, age 92, of Stronghurst, Illinois, passed away at 8:43 p.m. Sunday, May 22, 2022 at Oak Lane Nursing & Rehab in Stronghurst. She was born May 17, 1930 in Monmouth, Illinois, the duaghter of Ernest and Anna Matson Isaacson. On August 20, 1956, she married Sten Hoffer in Monmouth. He preceded her in death on December 9, 2018.
Dolores attended Monmouth schools, graduating from Monmouth High School in 1948. She then attended Morris Beauty School in Galesburg. Her 42 year career as a beautician first began at Bowmans-Colwell Beauty Salon in Monmouth, where she worked for 13 years. In 1965, she moved to Stronghurst and worked at Marcia’s Beauty Shop for 3 years, before operating her own salon from 1970 until her retirement in 1994. She was a member of the Stronghurst Community Senior Citizens and the Bethel Lutheran Church.
Survivors include one sister: Marilyn A’Hearn of Galesburg, Illinois; numerous nieces and nephews, including a special niece: Linda, numerous great-nieces and nephews, and a special friend and neighbor: Sharon Hicks.
She was preceded in death by her husband: Sten, one sister: Carol, and one brother: Dean Isaacson.
The funeral service for Dolores will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 31, 2022 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Stronghurst. Burial will be in the Monmouth City Cemetery, Monmouth, Illinois.
A visitation will be held Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established for the Bethel Lutheran Church or Beacon of Hope Hospice.
