Burlington man arrested in connection with knife attack

Burlington, IA-  The Burlington Police Department has announced the arrest of a Burlington man in connection with a knife attack.

On Monday, at about 9:38 AM, Burlington Police and Fire Departments were dispatched to the 700 Block of Aetna Street for a report of an assault involving a knife.

Upon arrival, authorities located a 43-year-old man with a knife wound in his leg.  The Burlington Fire Department transported the man to Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center for treatment.

Through investigation, police identified a person of interest in the attack.  The person, 40-year-old Eric Allen Shaffer of Burlington was located and transported to the police department for questioning.

Following an interview, Shaffer was arrested and charged with Willful Injury, Going Armed with Intent, and Assault while Displaying a Dangerous Weapon.
