Shirley A. Ammer, 90, of Nauvoo, Illinois, passed away at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 31, 2022, at River Hills Village in Keokuk, Iowa.

She was born on March 16, 1932 in Keokuk, Iowa, the daughter of Everett and Sarah (Wadden) Sale. On May 24, 1953, she married Glen Edward Ammer. He preceded her in death on July 10, 1987.

She is survived by her son: Doug Ammer of Lake of the Oaks, Missouri; daughter: Cheryl Barnhart of Sunnyland, Illinois; grandchildren: Kirt (Mindy) Ammer, Tiffany (Chad) Taylor and Jessica Andrews; great grandchildren: Jordan Branden Andrews, Lilly Ann Marie Brogan, Molly Kate Brogan, Ethan Edward Ammer, Evan Michael Ammer, Ean Richard Ammer, Easton David Ammer, Dominic David Aguilera, Jackson Bentley James Taylor, Noah Nicolas Aguilera and Alaina Ann Taylor.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter-in-law: Tawnya Ammer; Brothers: Roy Sale, Bud Sale and sisters: Martha Campbell and Delores McNeil.

Shirley was a 1950 graduate of Keokuk High School. She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Nauvoo. She worked at the telephone office in Keokuk before returning home to raise her family. Later in life, she cleaned and painted homes. She enjoyed cooking, taking care of and helping her family.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Saturday, June 18, 2022, at Schmitz – Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Nauvoo.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, June 18, 2022, at Schmitz – Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Nauvoo with Pastor Mark Anderson officiating.

Burial will be held at the Nauvoo City Cemetery.

A memorial has been established in her memory for River Hills Village.

Luana Claire Galvin, 85, of Burlington, died in her home at 6:30 AM Tuesday, May 31, 2022.

Born July 15, 1936, in Burlington, she was the daughter of James Claire and Betty Nelson Boyle. On December 26, 1960, she married George Galvin at the St. Patrick Catholic Church in Burlington, Iowa.

She was a graduate of Burlington High School class of 1954. She graduated from Western Illinois University in 1959, receiving a Bachelor’s Degree.

Luana taught in the Burlington Community School District for 18 years. She enjoyed traveling and taking family on vacations. She also enjoyed boating and fishing.

Survivors include her husband, George Raymond Galvin of Burlington; two sons, Eric (Robin) Galvin of Des Moines, and Tom (Leah) Galvin of Burlington; one daughter, Jennifer (Travis) Beard of Pella; eight grandchildren; one great grandchild; one sister, Barbara Deiling of California; four brothers, Michael Boyle of Biggsville, IL, Jeff Boyle of La Crosse, WI, Tim Boyle of Burlington and Matthew of St. Paul, MN.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one infant grandson, Ian George Galvin.

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory.

Visitation will be from noon until 7:00 PM with the family to receive friends following a 4:30 PM Rosary Service until 7:00 PM Friday, June 10, 2022, at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home.

The memorial service for Mrs. Galvin will be 10:00 AM Saturday, June 11, 2022, at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home with Very Rev. Father Marty Goetz officiating. A time of food and fellowship will be held in the community room at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home following the service. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for Southeast Iowa Regional Home Hospice.

Danny Kramer, age 74, of Philip, South Dakota and formerly of Burlington, Iowa, died unexpectedly, Saturday, February 1, 2020, in Chula Vista, California.
Danny Lee Kramer was born July 10, 1945, to Beryl and Lois Ross Kramer. He was raised on the family farm in New London, Iowa. After graduating from New London High School in 1963, he attended the American Business College in Rapid City, South Dakota where he met Linda Lee Long. After dating for some time, the two decided their paths would go separate ways. Linda later married John (Jack) Still in 1967, who passed away in a plane crash in 1968. Danny and Linda met again and rekindled their relationship.
In June 1970, Danny and Linda were married in Davenport, Iowa. During their careers, they had the opportunity to reside in a number of states, including Illinois, Iowa, Michigan, Washington and California. During his career, Danny achieved significant success at General Motors Acceptance Corporation (GMAC). After beginning with GMAC in Carthage, Illinois, Danny was promoted to the Moline, Illinois branch in 1975.
In 1981, Danny bought his first personal computer and shortly thereafter taught himself how to write computer software. He utilized his skills to voluntarily automate processes within GMAC. After utilizing some of his newly created programs nationwide, GMAC promoted Danny to Executive Office of General Motors in Detroit, Michigan. He continued having considerable success with GMAC and was subsequently promoted to branch manager in positions in Seattle, Washington and Highland, California.
Following retirement, Danny and Linda moved from Moorpark, California to Burlington, Iowa. In 2007, they purchased a motor home so they could spend more time visiting family and friends around the country. In June 2012, they sold their home in Burlington to follow their dream of becoming fulltime RV’ers. God called Linda home on April 6, 2013 and Danny continued his adventures as a fulltime RV’er. Prior to his passing, Danny enjoyed sharing time with Linda Smith of New London, Iowa.
Grateful for having shared Danny’s life include his son, John (Tonya) Kramer of Philip, South Dakota; his son, Jason (Penelope) Kramer of Corona, California; five grandchildren, Coy, Corbin and Colden (Philip); Kaylee and Zachery (Corona); sister, Vicky (Walt) Schuttler of Bettendorf, Iowa; sister, Kathy (Richard) Villhauer of Iowa City, Iowa; and a host of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife.
Visitation for Mr. Kramer will be held from 11:00 – 11:30 AM, Saturday, June 11, 2022 at Elliott Chapel, New London. Procession to Winfield Scott Cemetery, Winfield, Iowa will immediately follow. Dan Holsteen, 81, of Wapello, passed away with his family by his side on Saturday, June 4, 2022 at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington. Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 9, 2022 at the Wapello United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at the Wapello Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 8, 2022 at Snyder & Hollenbaugh Funeral & Cremation Services of Wapello. Daniel C. Holsteen was born on June 17, 1940, in Burlington, Iowa the son of Robert W. and Geraldine H. (Washburne) Holsteen. Dan graduated from the Huron High School in 1958 and served in the National Guard. On August 9, 1964, Dan was united in marriage to Merideth Korf at the Mediapolis First United Methodist Church. Dan was a devoted and passionate lifetime farmer in the Wapello area. He was member of the Wapello United Methodist Church and Farm Bureau, past member of the Louisa Cattleman’s Association and served several years on the drainage district board. He enjoyed classic cars, antique tractors, going on tractor rides, attending tractor pulls, Old Threshers, Iowa State Fairs and a good piece of Custard pie. His greatest enjoyment was his children and grandchildren, particularly attending their sporting events. He was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan.

Dan will be deeply missed by his wife, Merideth; children, Darren (Shelly) Holsteen of Wapello, Stephanie (John) Witte of Mediapolis and Roxanne (Kevin) Kropf of Marion; grandchildren, Jake (Katy) Holsteen, Jessica (Caleb) Gerst, Rachel Holsteen, Jacob (Liz) Long, Paige (Craig) Carlson, Renae (Greg) Goldensoph, Nicole (Joe) Bloomberg, Joelle (Dalton) Shadle, Kendra Witte, Justin Witte, Brandon Kropf and Tyler Kropf; great-grandchildren, Weston, Blakely, Graham, Collins, Kenna, Oakleigh, Logan, Hayden, Eloise and three on the way; brother, David Holsteen of Burlington and nephews, Todd and Travis Holsteen.

Dan was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Richard Holsteen.

Jerry A. Essex, 79, of Oquawka, died at 4:41 PM Saturday, June 4, 2022, at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics surrounded by his loving family.

Born June 25, 1942, in Oquawka, IL, he was the son of Dale and Dorothy McDill Essex. On October 15, 1961, he married Diane Johnson in Messiah Lutheran Church in Burlington. They celebrated their 60th anniversary this past October.

He was a 1960 graduate of G&O High School in Gladstone, IL. His interests included cars and playing basketball.

Jerry worked for Sylvania as a mechanic for many years. He later transferred to Champion until his retirement.

He attended Faith Bible Church of Oquawka, where he served by being an Awana leader for several years. Jerry also helped in the kitchen for many church events and was always one of the last to leave. He loved spending time outdoors, fishing and hunting, especially duck hunting. He also enjoyed collecting pocket knives, and always had one is his pocket. Jerry was an exceptional marksman, and was the Illinois State Trap Shooting Champion in 1973. Later in life, Jerry enjoyed sporting clays with his son and grandson. He loved to socialized and could always be found enjoying daily coffee with his friends. But most of all, Jerry enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great grandkids, they were the lights of his life.

Jerry will be remembered for his sweet but ornery personality and always being willing to help anyone with anything.

Survivors include his wife, Diane Essex of Oquawka, IL; son, Rick (Laura) Essex of Highland Village, TX; daughter, Shelly (Matt) Edwards of Oquawka, IL; six grandchildren, Hunter, Conner, Alana, Rachel, Emily and Maddie; and four great grandchildren, Abigale, Judah, Gideon and Micah.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory.

The memorial service for Jerry will be 10:00 AM Wednesday, June 8, 2022, at Faith Bible Church of Oquawka with Pastor Mark Baker officiating. A time of food and fellowship will be held at Faith Bible Church immediately following the service.

Kenneth Lloyd McPeak, 82, of Blandinsville, Illinois, passed away Saturday, June 4, 2022 at the Timber Point Healthcare Center in Camp Point, Illinois.

Kenneth was born July 6, 1939 in Fountain Green, Illinois, the son of Earl D. and Rose Mae (Sly) McPeak. On August 20, 1958 he married P. Joyce Brown in Blandinsville, Illinois. She preceded him in death on December 6, 2017.

Kenneth attended LaHarpe High School. He owned and operated McPeak Construction all of his. In earlier years he worked as a farmer. He enjoyed antique tractors, watching westerns and especially enjoyed time spent with his family.

Survivors include three daughters: Pam (Mike) Rothlauf of West Burlington, Iowa, Tammy Hodges of Macomb, Illinois and Kim (Tom) Sitton of Bowling Green, Missouri; one son: Doug McPeak of Bowling Green; 11 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren with one on the way; one sister: Dorothy Wisslead of LaHarpe and one brother: Jerry Shoemate of Blandinsville.

Besides his wife he was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter: Sherry Mitchell; one grandson: Ryan McPeak; one sister: Donna Owsley and one brother: James McPeak.

As per Kenneth’s wishes, a private family burial will be held in the LaHarpe Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established for the Blandin House Museum in Blandinsville. Mike Harbison, 55, of Morning Sun, passed away on Wednesday, June 1, 2022 at
Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington. A celebration of life for Mike will be from 11:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 18, 2022 at the Morning Sun Community Center. Herbert Michael Harbison, Sr. was born on April 6, 1967 in Burlington, Iowa, the son of Tom and Sherry (Fletcher) Harbison. Mike was a 1985 graduate of Morning Sun High School. On July 25, 1987, he was united in marriage to Wendy Rodruck in Mount Pleasant. Mike worked as a truck driver all of his life and owner/operator of Mike Harbison Trucking. You would never meet a person who had more knowledge of Mack Trucks than Mike. One of his biggest life highlights was the commercial “The Horn” that he had the honor to be a part of. Mike traveled to many truck shows and truck pulls and received numerous awards. He was a member of the ATHS and ATCA antique truck clubs. His family and grandchildren and the time he spent with them was the most important thing to Mike.

Mike will be deeply missed by his wife, Wendy; children, Herbert “Mike” (Abby) Harbison, Jr. of Mediapolis, Kayla Harbison of Morning Sun and Lilly Harbison of Morning Sun; his parents, Tom and Sherry Harbison of Morning Sun; grandchildren, Noah, Mackenzie, Josey, Kylee and one on the way; siblings, Jim Harbison of Morning and Tom “Truckie” (Michelle) Harbison of Crawfordsville; nieces and nephews, Kayla, Hannah, Zach, Logan and Caedon; great niece and nephews, Liam, Ella and Wyatt and aunts, Cindy (Randy) Wagg and Ann (Doug) Lee.

Mike was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Richard and Lillian Fletcher and his paternal grandparents, Herbert “Stub” and Mildred Harbison.
