Yarmouth, IA- One person is missing after a grain bin collapsed at the Yarmouth elevator.
A grain silo at the elevator collapsed and collided with another nearby silo sometime Tuesday morning, June 21st. One person was reported missing in the collapse as multiple emergency crews from the surrounding areas responded.
Des Moines County Emergency Management Coordinator Gina Hardin says that rescue efforts are underway. “Cedar Rapids Task Force One, which is a search and rescue team is here, and they are helping us” Hardin said. “We’ve done some searching and we’re continuing to search and trying to do it in a safe manner so that nobody else gets hurt or injured,” Hardin said.
Emergency crews were placed on rotating shifts due to the extreme heat. To help emergency crews, civilians from the surrounding area donated items such as ice, bottled water, and Gatorade.
The missing person has yet to be found. More information will be released as it becomes available.
