James F Barr, 90, of Burlington, died at 10:00 AM Saturday, June 25, 2022, at the Morning Sun Care Center in Morning Sun.

Born December 16, 1931, in Burlington, he was the son of Mark Chester and Ruth Wilke Barr.

James worked in transportation for CB&Q RR Freight Agent, he was a Traffic Manager for United Facilities, Junior Traffic Manager for Grain Processing in Muscatine, and Gail Products in Galesburg.

Survivors include his friends, Caleb (Abby) Larson of Mediapolis, IA, and their children, Walker and Kase Larson.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Barbara.

Visitation will be from 12:00 PM until 7:00 PM with the Larson family to receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Tuesday, July 5, 2022 at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home.

There will be a private funeral service for Mr. Barr at a later date. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for the Des Moines County Humane Society.

Ivan D. Lant, age 85, of Media, Illinois, passed away Sunday, June 26, 2022 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center is Peoria, Illinois. He was born January 13, 1937 in Rozetta, Illinois, the son of Samuel and Elsie Ahlers Lant. On January 16, 1954, he married Catherine Irene Link in Kahoka, Missouri. She preceded him in death on May 27, 2006.

Mr. Lant owned and operated Lant’s 66 Service Station in Media from 1963 to 1970, and later farmed in Henderson County for many years. He served on the Media Village Board for many years, and enjoyed camping, playing cards, and going to the casino.

Survivors include three daughters: Cathy Perry of Peoria, IL, Lorretta Rountree of Burlington, IA, Iva (Bill) Carlson of Biggsville, IL, two sons: Craig (Donna) Lant of Macomb, IL, Lyle Lant of Stronghurst, IL, nine grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren, and one sister, Gladys (Dan) Gulick of Kirkwood, IL. He was preceded in death by his wife, two daughters: Debra and Lola Lant, three sisters: Phyllis Conner, Katherine Wallace, and Carol McGeehon, and two brothers: Robert Lant, in infancy, and Max Lant.

Cremation rites have been accorded and inurnment will be in the Olena Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Sunday, July 10, 2022 at St Patrick’s Community Center near Raritan. Judy Griffith, 73, of Milwaukee, WI passed away on June 24, 2022 in Milwaukee.
Born August 25, 1048 in Burlington, IA she was the daughter of Dorsey R. and Lola F. (Unglesbee) Heldt. Judy attended school in Burlington and graduated from Burlington High School in 1966.
She married Art Drinkell they later divorced. She married Joe Griffith in California who preceded her in death.
Survivors include daughters Dawn Gilbert of Burlington and Crystal Ayala of Wisconsin; six grandchildren; one great granddaughter; three sisters Linda Johnson of Burlington, Karen Killoren of Hamilton, IL and Nancy Aldrich of Washington, IA; several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Joe; her parents; grandparents; two sisters Barb and Peggy; aunts and uncles.
Per her wishes, she has been cremated and there will be no formal service at this time. There will be a celebration of life at a later date.

Beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle and brother, Jimmy Dan Myers, 90, of Burlington, died at 5:40 AM Friday, June 24, 2022, at his home.

Born July 11, 1931, in Biggsville, IL, he was one of eight children to the late Albert and Ruby Combites Myers. On July 26, 1948, he married Gladys Murphy in Monmouth. Together they raised two children. He later married his high school sweetheart, Pauline E. Siens in California.

Jimmy joined the U.S. Air Force when he was 18 years old. He was deployed to Vietnam and served for over two years before returning to California. He continued his service with the Air Force and retiring at the rank of Master Sergeant after 20 years of service.

He was a member of the Masonic Lodge. He enjoyed deer hunting and traveling. Jimmy’s family was the most important thing to him, especially doting on his beloved wife.

Jimmy leaves behind his beloved family; his wife, Pauline E. Myers of Burlington; son, Danny (Deb) Myers, Jr.; daughter, Robin Bowman; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; several step-children, step grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Evelyn Link of Oquawka, Mary Lou (Delbert) Dillon of Jacksonville, AR, and Jeannie (Bill) Leonard of Biggsville, IL; as well as, several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife and four brothers, Ora, Roy, Allen Lee and Donald.

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory.

The Graveside Committal Service for Jimmy will be 1:00 PM Tuesday, June 28, 2022, at Biggsville Cemetery. Those wishing to attend the service can meet at the Prugh-Thielen Funeral Home prior to the service for a procession departing at 12:30 PM to the cemetery. Full military honors will be rendered.

Kay J. Criner, 85, of Burlington, died at 10:35 am Thursday, June 23, 2022, at MercyOne Hospice Care in Johnston, IA.

Born February 13, 1937, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Harvey and Virginia Hugg Criner.

Kay graduated from Burlington High School and went on to attend college at Parsons in Fairfield, Iowa and the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley. After college, she moved to Sarasota, Florida and was employed by Riverview High School where she directed the Highland Dancers for many years and was proud of their accomplishments and performances. Under her direction they performed at the Rose Bowl parade and traveled to Scotland and Europe. In her free time she enjoyed golf, tennis and dancing. Upon her retirement she returned to her hometown of Burlington.

Survivors include her brother, Richard “Dick” Criner (Evelyn) of Des Moines; four nieces and nephews, Terri (Dale) Bunting, Linda Ream, Kay Knott and Tim Criner; eight great nieces and nephews and five great-great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Judy Knott and friend, Sally Box.

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory.

Kay will be inurned in Ash Gardens Columbarium in Aspen Grove Cemetery in Burlington.

Harold T. Casady, 97, of Burlington died Thursday, June 23, 2022 at his home.
Born September 23, 1924 in Cantril, IA, he was the son of Beryl B. and Florence Christine (Thieme) Casady.
Harold served in the United States Navy during World War II. On March 3, 1950 he married Dorothy A. Stodgell of Yarmouth, IA.
Harold was an electrician for the CB & Q and Burlington Northern railroads in Burlington for 18 years. He then worked for the Burlington Community School District for 20 years, retiring in 1987.
Harold was a past member of the Eagles Club, RES, RSES, American Legion, Skiowans ski club, and he taught a couple of college courses at Southeastern Community College.
Survivors include his wife of 72 years, Dorothy of Burlington, children David (Ann) Casady of Harriman, TN, Carolyn (Mark) Prevo of O’Fallon, MO, Gena (David) Leone of Blue Ridge, GA; nine grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; brother Bruce Casady of Burlington; several nieces and nephews; extended family Danny (Karen) Wick and family; Lois Akey and family and the Su family.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents, twin brothers Carol and Carl.
Per his wishes, cremation has been accorded and entrusted to the care of Lunning Funeral Chapel.
There will be no formal services for Mr. Casady at this time. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established for First Christian Church and Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice.
