
Des Moines, IA- COVID-19 hospitalizations in Iowa rose by 25% over the past week.
The Des Moines Register reports that, according to the state health department, the number of Iowans hospitalized with COVID-19 rose to 309, 60 more than the previous week. Of those hospitalized, the number of patients who required intensive care rose from 22 last week to 41.
The number of newly reported cases however remained mostly steady. 5,768 new COVID-19 cases were reported, the second most cases reported since March.
35 COVID-19 deaths were also reported, bringing the total number of deaths since the start of the pandemic to 9,817.
As of Wednesday, 59.2% of Iowans were fully vaccinated.
