Wever, IA- Alliant Energy has proposed replacing some of its coal-generated energy with solar power.
Alliant plans to do this by placing solar panels on 230 acres in Lee County outside Wever. The project is part of a plan to provide 400 megawatts of solar power to customers in 83 of Iowa’s 99 counties.
Lee County Supervisors Chairman Matt Pflug told Tri States Public Radio that he likes the local plan because it wouldn’t require the use of eminent domain.
“The landowners that you are working with are on board, so that’s a positive, too, as well,” Pflug says. “I definitely see this as a win-win for Lee County.”
Alliant has scheduled a meeting with the county utility board on September 27th in Fort Madison.
