Helen Louise Cooper, 88, of Burlington, died Sunday, September 18, 2022, at the Azria Health Care Center in Mediapolis.
Born September 7, 1934, in Fife Lake, MI, she was the daughter of Raymond and Bertha Ouderkirk. On September 13, 1950, she married Frank Warren Cooper in Vicksburg, MI. He died January 22, 2012.
Helen worked at a print shop before working at the Iowa Ammunition Plant for about five years. She later worked at Sylvania for two years.
She was a member Divine Mercy Parish and the Knights of Columbus Auxiliary. She was a seamstress, called Bingo, and loved her dog, as well as every dog, named Buffy. She enjoyed going to garage sales.
Survivors include children, Frank (Bonne) Cooper of Burlington, Carol (Dennis) Fritz, Sandy Cooper both of Burlington, and Pam Eversmeyer of League City, TX; 11 grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son, Joseph Cooper, four brothers, Deverne, Norwal, Edward, and William and one sister, Rosemary Scharphorn.
Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory.
Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery.

Jonna Golliday, 59, of Burlington, died Sunday, September 18, 2022, at the Savannah Heights in Mount Pleasant.
Born July 4, 1963, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Laverne “Red” Marvin and Wilmetta Golliday.
She worked at Shearer’s on the cleaning crew.
Jonna loved to fish, camp, and spend time with her family. Even though she couldn’t eat them, she enjoyed hunting for morel mushrooms.
Survivors include her daughter, Sarah (Jacob) Myers of Fort Madison; two grandkids, Lilly & Hunter Myers; brother, Bernie (Jane ) Golliday of Burlington; and sister, Marie Hobby.
She is preceded in death by her parents.
Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory.
A celebration of life will be held Saturday, September 24, 2022 from 1:00 PM until 4:00 PM at Crapo Park in the shelter house by the pond.

Jerry Leo Talbott, 80, of rural Mt. Union, died Tuesday, September 20, 2022 at Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington.
Born August 30, 1942 in Burlington, he was the son of Leo Earl and Mary Virginia Gabeline Talbott.
He graduated from Yarmouth High School and was enlisted with the United States Air Force from 1960 to 1964.
On September 2, 1962 Jerry married Lila June Jacobs in Larkensburg, KS.
Jerry was a farmer and a truck driver. He drove for Aldi and also hauled grain for many years. Jerry was a member of New London United Methodist Church where he sang in the choir and was a member of the United Methodist Men. Jerry was a volunteer with RSVP in Mt Pleasant where he enjoyed driving clients to their appointments. He was a previous board member on the Iowa State Board of Cosmotology. Jerry helped former Iowa Governor Vilsack’s wife Christie with serving tea parties at the Governor’s mansion in Des Moines. He was playfully known as “The Mayor of Iowa”, and he really enjoyed helping people.
Survivors include his wife June of Mt. Union; daughters Jeanna (Douglas) Barcus of Mt. Union, Janelle Michels of Grand Ledge, MI and Jolene (Blake) Hazen of Grand Ledge, MI; grandchildren Natalie (Austin) Farver of Baxter, IA, Nicole Baker of Newton, IA and Olivia Hazen of Grand Ledge, MI; one great grandchild Willow; Brother Richard (Mary) Talbott of Wapello, IA and numerous nieces and nephews.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents.
The funeral service for Jerry will be at 10:00 AM Saturday, September 24th at Lunning Chapel with the Reverend Matt Miller officiating. The family will receive friends Friday September 23rd at Lunning Chapel from 5:00 to 7:00 PM. Military rites will be performed by the United States Air Force. Interment will be at Trinity Cemetery Mt. Union, IA.

Marilyn June Cahill, 83, of Burlington, died Tuesday, September 20, 2022, at her home.
Born June 4, 1939, in Fountain Green, IL, she was the daughter of Lloyd and Nancy Moore Breiner. On July 29, 1967, she married William Patrick Cahill in St. John’s Catholic Church in Burlington.
She was a graduate of Blandinsville High School.
Marilyn was a stay at home mother. She also worked at Shaffer Pen and IRC.
Marilyn loved to travel all over. She enjoyed creating stain glass work, boating, camping, taking care of plants, and canning. She was very proud of her water garden and koi fish. She loved her pets and would often take her Cocker Spaniels, Candy, Willie, Skipper, and Pepper for rides.
Survivors include her husband, William of Burlington; one daughter, Kimberly (Michael) Pyle of Burlington; two grandsons, Nicholas Pyle and Stephen Pyle; six sisters, Dorothy Plank, Pauline Jones both of LaHarpe, IL, Charlene Wilson, Deanna Truelove both of Blandinsville, IL, Patricia Huston of New Bostin, IL, and Jo (Buck) Frye of Muscatine, IA; many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; six sisters, Lucille Luton, Louise Thompson, Thelma Figg, Wyvonne Byers, Virginia Kerfoot and Joy Byers; and one brother, Gene Breiner.
Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory.
The Graveside Committal Service for Mrs. Cahill will be 11:00 AM, Monday, September 26, 2022 at Sacred Heart Cemetery.

Virginia “Ginny” Arlene (Feldman) Murphy, 92, of Burlington, died Tuesday, September 20, 2022, at the Danville Care Center.
Born November 29, 1929, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Edward Carl and Ruth Victoria Distlehorst Feldman. On August 6, 1950, she married Lawrence H. Murphy in Burlington. On January 28, 1991, he passed away. She then spent the next 28 years with her special friend, John Kindig, until his passing on June 20, 2020.
Ginny graduated from Sperry High School in 1948 and one of the highlights of her senior year was playing in the state basketball tournament with six of her classmates.
She started work at the Northwestern Bell Telephone Company then helped her husband on their farm for 40 years. She also worked for Johnston’s Truck stop in Mediapolis, The Eagle Gift Shop, which was a part of Balbort Beverage, then receptionist for the Neighborhood Center, Geode R.C.& D. and the YMCA. Lastly, she was a well known greeter at Walmart for 15 years and finally retired at the age of 86.
Ginny was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church where she was also a member of the Sarah Circle and served on the Alter Guild. She helped with the bake sales, where her peach cream pie and streusel coffee cakes were quite favored. She was most recently a member of West Hill Methodist Church, Moose Lodge and the Eagles Club. She loved music, could play the piano by ear, and loved to dance. Ginny enjoyed cooking, baking and spending time with her family. Her favorite concerts were George Strait, Wayne Newton and Michael Buble.
Survivors include her son, Steven Douglas (Lisa) Murphy of Burlington; daughter, Victoria “Vicki” Lynn (Kevin) Beckman of Burlington; honorary daughter, Sue Dixon of Burlington; seven grandchildren, Shannon (Chase) Murphy of Williams Bay, WI, Brenna Murphy of Burlington, Brennan Murphy of Cedar Rapids, and Rachel, Aiden, Charlotte “Charli” and Kaden Murphy all of Burlington; four great-grandchildren, Rihanna and Aaliyah Campbell, Isabella “Ella” and Americus “Mac” DeLuca.
Besides her husband, Lawrence Murphy, and special friend, John Kindig, she was preceded in death by her parents, daughter, Diana Kay Murphy, three sisters, Viola Brockert, Bernice Wainwright and Lorraine Dannenberger.
Family will receive friends from 9:00 AM until 10:00 AM Saturday, September 24, 2022 at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home.

Mr. Carl Edward Fisher Jr., 78, of Burlington, died Saturday, September 17, 2022 at his home.
Born May 17, 1944 in Arkansas, he was the son of Carl Edward and Glendean (Gibson) Fisher Sr. Carl married Jean Louise Trimble on May 19, 1963. She died August 5, 2004. He then married Beverly Ann Reed Ivey on March 20, 2010 in Burlington, IA.
Carl was a high school graduate and he attended Southeastern Community College. He was a journeyman and a tool and tile maker for J.I. Case Company, Exide and Lamont in Mt. Pleasant where he later retired. Carl enjoyed building whirley gig lawn ornaments, detailed painting and cutting, attending estate and garage sales, and collecting M&M, PEZ, and Camel Joe memorabilia.
He attended Four Square Gospel Church.
Survivors include his wife Beverly; two sons, Troy Edward Fisher of MO, and Steven Scott (Janice) Fisher of New London, IA; six grandchildren, Jason, TJ, Sean, Tesa, Amanda and Jamie; four step-daughters, Lisa Ivey of Shoreview, MN, Laura (Pierre) Chausse of Roan Mountain, TN, Tammy McConnell of Muscatine, IA, and Sally Ann Talbott of Burlington, IA; six step-grandchildren, Sammy Ivey, Jean-Pierre Chausse, Etienne Chausse, Lisette Chausse, Erica McConnell, and Jonathan McConnell; and two sisters, Sue Butler of Oklahoma City, OK and Grace Ciesielski of Crown Point, IN.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Jean, one sister, Jean and a younger brother who died in childhood.
A celebration of life will be at 1:00 PM, October 22nd at Foursquare Gospel Church 200 Curran St, Burlington.

Nancy Ann Niles, 75, of Carman, IL died Saturday, September 17, 2022, at the Oak Lane Nursing and Rehab in Stronghurst.
Born June 8, 1947, in Burlington, IA, she was the daughter of Andrew and Martha Rehman. She married Thomas Baker and had four children. They later divorced. On October 26, 1990, she married Wayne Niles in Burlington.
She was a graduate of Burlington Notre Dame then attended SCC and the University of Iowa, graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree.
Nancy was a Medical Technologist Supervisor for Burlington Medical Center then Great River Medical Center for over 30 years.
Nancy was a member of Divine Mercy Parrish and the Carthage Lake Club. She was an avid sports fan, and loved golf and playing bridge. She loved to support her children and grandchildren in their sports, musicals and school events. Nancy loved the outdoors, especially spending time at the cabin on the Mississippi River with her family.
Survivors include her husband, Wayne Niles of Carman, IL; three daughters, Meghan (Corey) Stephens, Molly Baker, and Melissa Warner all of Burlington; son, Michael (Audra) Baker of Burlington; four step-children, Marion Niles of Decorah, IA, Todd Niles of West Burlington, Sherril (Dan) Siefken of Burlington, and Mike Niles of Burlington; 13 grandchildren, Kathryn, Taryn and Shay Stephens, Layla and Chesney Greene, Madelyn Mosena, Tatum Warner, Emersyn, Owen and Gavin Baker, Michael Niles, Niles Siefken and Jennifer Niles; six siblings; Mary Jane Dideriksen of Flordia, Kay Conaway of Flordia, Rick (Linda) Rehman of Burlington, Bob (Dia) Rehman of Burlington and Betty Clare Rehman of Springfeild, IL; and several nieces and nephews .
She is preceded in death by her parents.

Marie Ann Skalinski, 39, of Burlington, died Thursday, September 15, 2022, at her home.
Born July 4, 1983, Iowa, she was the daughter of Milton “Skip” and Susan Oetken Skalinski.
She worked at Shearer’s Food and ABB until it closed. She was currently working on becoming a Licensed Massage Therapist.
Marie was very active at her church and her gym, American Bushido Martial Arts. She was also a brown belt in Tae Kwon Do. Marie loved being on the river and watching the Iowa Hawkeyes. She was a true 80’s kid and had a Rainbow Brite and Care Bear collection. But most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.
Survivors include her mother, Sue Skalinski of Burlington; spouse, Damion Neff of Burlington; son, Clayton Skalinski of Burlington; daughter, Taylor Neff of Burlington; three brothers, Jace (Melissa) Skalinski of Burlington, Luke (Sara) Skalinski of Seattle, WA and Jameson (Victoria) Skalinski of Denver, CO; two sisters, Claire Skalinski of Denver, CO and Jerica (Danny) Johnson of Mediapolis; nieces and nephews, Trevor, Tanner and Madi Skalinski, Tripp and Cliff Johnson.
She is preceded in death by her father, Skip Skalinski, grandmother, Frances Oetken, and two uncles, Michael Oetken and Raymond Skalinski.

Harold “Sonny” Bundy Jr., 72, of LaHarpe, Illinois passed away at 8:08 a.m. Monday, September 19, 2022 at the Roseville Rehabilitation & Health Care in Roseville, Illinois.
Sonny was born on November 2, 1949 in LaHarpe the son of Harold and Theresia (Voorjans) Bundy Sr.
Sonny was raised and educated in LaHarpe. He worked as a carpenter for many different companies, including Russell Wagy Construction, Housewright Construction and along side his father at Pioneer Lumber. He also tended bar for many years. He was a fan of the Chicago Bears and Dale Earnhardt Jr.
In later years, Sonny enjoyed late night cruises around LaHarpe. He had a big heart and would help anyone he could. He was a great father, grandfather, brother and uncle.
Survivors include three children: Laura (Matt) Schliep of Zumbrota, Minnesota, Aaron Bundy of LaHarpe and Trent (Justine) Bundy of Plymouth, Illinois; his mother: Theresia Bundy of LaHarpe; 5 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; one sister: Annette Cross of Fulton, Missouri; two brothers: Medardus (Tawnya) Bundy of LaHarpe and Avery (Kathy) Bundy of Decatur, Illinois and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father and one great-nephew: Cody Bundy.
A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 21, 2022 at the LaHarpe Cemetery with Pastor Nate McCarter officiating. No visitation is planned.

Rick Mellinger, 63, of Burlington, died Saturday, September 17, 2022, at his home surrounded by family.
Born December 31, 1958, in Burlington, he was the son of Richard F. and JoAnn McQueen Mellinger. On March 10, 1984, he married Laura Schroeder in Burlington.
Rick was a Burlington High School Graduate, and later graduated from Northeast Missouri State with his teaching degree.
He worked as an operations manager for most of his career at Walmart Distribution Center in Mount Pleasant.
Rick was a member of Harmony Bible Church, Burlington Campus. He spent a lot of his time on ministry projects through First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), where he was a member. Rick was a natural leader, always volunteering and helping with food donations or assisting with fundraising for various projects. One of his memorable ministry projects was traveling to Nicaragua to build wells for the tribes. He was also the Southeast Iowa Coordinator for Operation Christmas Child, and he enjoyed the opportunity he had to personally deliver the boxes to Uganda. Rick loved coaching for his children’s sports including: baseball, softball, soccer, and wrestling. He enjoyed watching the Iowa Hawkeyes, golfing, playing slow pitch softball and fantasy football. He especially enjoyed Christmas shopping for his grandkids and spending time with his family.
Survivors include wife of 38 years, Laura Mellinger of Burlington; son, Joel Mellinger of Burlington; two daughters, Emily (Brandon) Diewold of West Burlington and Olivia Mellinger of Burlington; Gabriel Mellinger, Phoenix Mellinger, Quinten Clegg, Elise Clegg, Sequoia Bowling; sister, Becky (Jim) Koehler of Burlington; two brothers, Steve (Robin) Mellinger of Brunswick, GA and Robin (Lou Ann) Mellinger of Hills, IA; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and father-in-law, Neil Schroeder.
Visitation will be from noon until 7:00 PM with the family to receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Wednesday, September 21, 2022 at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home.
The funeral service for Mr. Mellinger will be 10:00 AM Thursday, September 22, 2022, at First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). A time of food and fellowship will be held at the church following a processional drive around town. Private family burial will be in Burlington Memorial Park Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family would like for those attending the service to bring a non-perishable food item for donation to continue Rick’s legacy.
