Burlington, IA-  The Burlington Public Library Board of Trustees has announced the hiring of the next Library Director.

The board has announced that Brittany R Jacobs has been hired for the role.

Jacobs is currently the Manager of Outreach and Program Services for the library and came to Burlington after serving in public library systems in Denver, Colorado and Naperville, Illinois.

Jacobs will take over as director on October 3rd.

Originally from Chicagoland, Jacobs received her Masters’s of Library and Information Science from the University of Illinois. She has authored and illustrated several children’s books, serves on the Editorial Review Board for the Afterschool Matters academic journal, and recently completed the Iowa Library Association Leadership Institute.

“We are proud and excited to have Brittany as our next visionary leader,” said Becky Godfrey, President of the Burlington Public Library Board of Trustees. “Her interest in learning sciences, and her leadership style are a great fit for our future.”

“It’s an absolute honor to pick up where Rhonda left off,” said Jacobs. “We have a passionate and creative library staff who are doing really phenomenal things, and I’m thrilled to be a part of it. Don’t forget your sunglasses when you visit the Burlington Public Library, because our future is mighty bright!”

A national search was conducted by the Board of Trustees Selection Committee to replace Rhonda Frevert who left the position in August after 20 years of service.
