Galesburg, Ill.-  The Galesburg Fire Department responded to two separate structure fires within twelve hours over the weekend.

The first fire occurred Friday, November 25th, at 8:44 PM at 1094 Garden Lane.  Upon arrival, responding firefighters found heavy smoke and fire showing from the single-story structure.  Firefighters entered the home and extinguished the fire.

A single resident and a dog were able to escape safely, but two cats did die in the fire.  The cause of the fire has been determined to be an unattended open-flame candle in a bathroom.

The second fire occurred at 2051 Grand Ave on Saturday, November 26th, at 3:18 AM.

Upon arrival, firefighters reported the building was engulfed in fire.  Fire crews made defensive attacks to prevent the fire from spreading to nearby buildings.

The building was deemed a total loss.  It was determined the fire was set intentionally. The fire is still under investigation by the Galesburg Fire and Police Department.
