Mount Pleasant Police officer shoots suspect, placed on leave

Mount Pleasant, IA-  The Mount Pleasant Police Department has placed an officer on leave after shooting a suspect in the arm.

According to a news release, at about 10:04 PM Saturday, December 3rd, Mount Pleasant Police Officers and Henry County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to a domestic disturbance in the 700 block of Main Street, where a man calling for help was being held at gunpoint.

Upon arrival, Officers encountered a man calling for help from the bathroom window.  He was able to escape through the window.

Officers made contact with a subject who brandished a weapon and was shot in the arm by an officer.

The officer was placed on Critical Incident Leave, pending an investigation by the Iowa Department of Criminal Investigation.

The names of the officer and the suspect were not released.
