Burlington, IA- Burlington Riverfront Entertainment will celebrate the new year with a new indoor ice skating rink at Burlington Memorial Auditorium during the month of January.

The synthetic rink will be placed on the arena floor, and is able to hold about 70 to 100 skaters at a time. Admission will be $10 per skater and $5 for skate rental. Skaters are allowed to bring their own skates, and admission will be free for non-skaters.

Skating aids will be available for those who are disabled or need special assistance on the ice. Concessions will also be available.

“This is something that David and I have been talking about doing for a few years now” BRE’s executive director, Mike O’Neil shared. “We originally wanted to do real ice outside but the cost to do it just wasn’t feasible and the winter weather can be very unpredictable. After looking at the synthetic ice, we thought it would be really cool to do inside and it would also allow us to offer ice skating in the summer months.”

BRE assistant director, David Kroll agrees with O’Neil adding, “There’s so many fun things we can do with this ice rink! Eventually we would love to see it used for ice skating lessons, hockey clinics and pee-wee hockey games. Right now, we want to get this first month under our belts and work out the kinks before we get too fancy!”

A tentative grand opening date for the rink has been set for January 12th. Follow the Burlington Riverfront Entertainment Facebook page for further updates.
