Multiple animals die in barn fire

Burlington, IA- Multiple animals were killed in a Barn fire Friday evening in Tama Township.

According to a news release, at 7:11 PM Friday, Burlington and Mediapolis Firefighters responded to a reported structure fire at 9054 113th Street, rural Burlington in Tama Township.

Burlington firefighters arrived at 7:16 PM to find a livestock barn fully engulfed in flames.

A box alarm was struck calling in ten off-duty Burlington firefighters, and bringing water tenders and manpower from Gladstone and West Burlington Fire Departments.

In addition to the barn, the heat from that fire caused damage to the house, a utility shed a car, and a camper. Firefighters brought the fire under control by 7:47 PM.

The owners of the property, Steve and Linda Barry, were not home at the time of the fire. 11 goats and several cats perished as a result of the fire. Damage estimates are still being assessed and the property is insured.

The cause of the fire is under investigation and is not considered suspicious.
