Des Moines, IA-  Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds on Thursday, February 16th, signed into law a bill that limits the financial awards victims of medical malpractice can receive in damages.

TV Station KCCI reports that the law places a limit on financial awards that medical malpractice victims can receive at $2 million from hospitals and $1 million from other healthcare providers.

Opponents of the bill said that $2 million may not be enough for some victims, while supporters say it improves the future of Iowa healthcare because it protects hospitals from having to pay tens of millions of dollars in damages.
