Burlington, IA- Charges against a Burlington woman accused of shooting her cousin during an altercation in August of 2022 have been dropped.
30-year-old Jacquise Rush was arrested on August 31st and charged with reckless use of a firearm-serious injury, intimidation with a dangerous weapon, willful injury, and first-degree harassment.
The Hawk Eye reports that Des Moines County Attorney Lisa Schaefer filed a motion to dismiss the charges against Rush, which was granted by a District Court Judge.
On August 15th, police were called to the 800 block of south 9th street for a report of a male victim with a gunshot wound. Officers located the victim who said he had been shot by his cousin, Rush.
Police also spoke with the homeowner, who said that the man and Rush were having an argument that became physical. They said Rush also had a golf club and was swinging it before the victim took the club from her. They said Rush then pulled out a firearm and shot the man in the leg before fleeing the scene.
In the motion to dismiss, Schaefer said that the victim cannot be located and had refused to participate in the case.
Rush plead not guilty to the charges in September, and had planned to argue that she shot her cousin in self-defense.
