One person dead, one injured in Mount Pleasant crash

Mount Pleasant, IA-  One person was killed, and another was injured Wednesday in a single-vehicle accident in Mount Pleasant.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, on Wednesday at 11:08 AM,  a vehicle was going westbound in the 1200 block of Highway 34.  The driver, 65 year old John Thornton of Salem became unconscious and the vehicle went off the road to the right.

The vehicle then crossed back over both lanes and rolled before coming to rest in the south ditch.

Thornton and a passenger, 47 year old Michael Hines of Mount Pleasant were both transported to Henry County Health Center.  Thornton died as a result of the crash.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, neither of the men were wearing seatbelts at the time of the accident.
