Burlington man arrested for stealing car following police chase

Fort Madison, IA-  A Burlington man has been arrested for stealing a car following a police chase in Fort Madison.

28-year-old Kenneth Morrison of Burlington was charged with second-degree theft, eluding- injury, OWI, drugs, or participating in a felony, failing to obey a stop or yield sign, and probation violation.

The Hawk Eye reports that, at about 9 AM Monday, June 12th, a woman parked her 2013 Dodge Avenger at the Burlington Public Library with the engine still running.  When the woman exited the library, the car was gone.

Police were able to contact the dealership the car was recently purchased from, who were able to track the vehicle through its GPS system.

Authorities determined the car was being driven in Fort Madison.

At about 10:30 AM, Fort Madison Police located the vehicle and attempted to stop it, but the vehicle fled and a pursuit ensued.  The pursuit ended near 260th Street and Highway 61 when the vehicle left the roadway and Morrison attempted to flee on foot.

He was later located in a nearby wooded area.

Police searched Morrison after being detained, and was found to be in possession of methamphetamine.
