
Burlington, IA- The Burlington Community School District has announced a new principal of the VIBE Virtual Learning Program.
According to a news release, Laura Mickey has been named as the new principal of the school’s VIBE program.
Mickey will be taking the place of current VIBE principal Beth Shurtleff effective July 5, when Shurtleff assumes her new role as assistant principal of Edward Stone Middle School.
Mickey is a lifelong resident of southeast Iowa and currently lives in Burlington with her wife and 5-year-old daughter. She also has two adult step-sons. Mickey grew up in West Burlington and studied education at Iowa Wesleyan College.
Mickey earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from Iowa Wesleyan University in 2003, her Master of Arts in Teaching Professional Educator from Morningside University in 2016, and her Iowa PK-12 Principal – Supervisor of Special Education License from Viterbo University in 2023.
Throughout her 19-year career in education, she has taught special education, first and third grade. She also has served on building and district leadership teams, as well as coached junior high basketball, volleyball, junior varsity softball, and freshman softball.
